“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 24 July 2006

We stayed for one night in July 2006. We arrived expecting a single room with two double beds, one for our teenaged son and the other for my husband and myself. The outside appearance of the inn, like that of a rather old-fashioned two-story motel, gave us no reason to alter our expectation. What a surprise to discover the lovely (think toile) and commodious suite with two large bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a small kitchen. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the cozy sitting area in the room that served as the inn's office was stocked with reading material: not just the usual travel brochures, but a bookcase full of novels and a basketful of menus from the dozens of charming restaurants in the beautiful town. In the morning, a basket of fruit, cereal, and breakfast rolls, along with milk and juice, was left for us outside our door. We were sorry that our travel plans allowed us only one night at the Wayside Inn.

Very pet friendly hotel. Stayed in Room #6 on second floor in a corner nearest Mission St. CONS: Very noisy in the morning; garbage trucks, trucks with air brakes, construction was going on, car horns at 7:20am, building alarms across the street going off. Not very satisfied with that. Walls are paper thin. Microwave only worked when you selected the "Popcorn" button. Two windows didn't close all of the way. Very chilly. About a 1" gap at bottom of front door. Just stuffed a towel in to stop draft. Kitchen light sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. Paint chipped off of bathroom walls. Water conservation shower head. Toilet took about 10 minutes to fill tank.
Now for the PROS: Friendly and helpful front desk staff let me check out a couple of rooms for me to choose from. Early check-in. Fireplace was very nice for the family to enjoy.
For $140 dollars, I wasn't satisfied for what I received. The beach is 11 blocks from the hotel. Walked by several other inns that were much closer to beach and allowed pets. Do your homework before selecting this Inn.

We stayed at the Wayside Inn on our last night in California and we found it absolutely wonderful. The staff were lovely and very friendly. We arrived about 8pm and asked the gentleman on reception about somewhere to eat. He took time out to get us a map and show us a couple of good restaurants based on the type of food we were looking for. The restaurant we chose was excellent although I do agree with previous reviewer that every thing closes very early.

The breakfast next morning although not massive was just enough to start us off and then we went for a walk. The lady at reception pointed out the best way to go to get to the beach and said to stop inpast on way back for coffee and cookies. (Unfortunately we didn't have time for this).

The rooms were very spacious and well laid out and the gas fire was great and it was nice to have a seating area. Would thoroughly recommend this inn.

Also I booked this accommodation through Expedia and we had no problems. Rooms were waiting for us when we arrived.

We loved this place when we stayed here for a couple of days last December. The hotel is not located near the sea or the main road (where all theother hotels are) but it's a great place. The room was very big with a nice patio, and microwave/ cable. And wireless internet too. Rooms were clean, though the bathroom was a little dull, poorly lit but clean as well. The breakfast is just ok, not too great.... overall, a nice place at a decent price. Not a place where you can spend the whole day, but definitely a relaxing place once you have done the cannery row and aquarium in monterey.

this place seems very nice, but we had big problems because we booked online (through expedia, i believe, although it may have been orbitz). when we arrived at the inn we were surprised to discover that they had no record of our reservation. it turns out that the website we booked with takes reservations for the wayside but they never actually get entered into the inn's system- they actually have no connection with the website. apparently this had happened several times before, so it wasn't just a weird fluke. that said, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and they quickly found us another room at the carriage house inn (also a great place to stay). so i definitely recommend staying at the wayside inn, but whatever you do, DO NOT MAKE YOUR RESERVATION ONLINE!!!

Rooms were wonderful, clean and nicely decorated- loved the gas fireplace - reminded us of home. Walking distance to everything. Breakfasts were very nice for a continental breakfast. Would stay at the Wayside again.

The staff was nice, the continental breakfast decent, the location good, the climate wonderful, the dog happy. However, the walls and floors are atrociously thin and, therefore, the property very loud, our gas stove leaked, and the wing we were in looks as if it hasn't been updated since the 50's. At $285 a night, it was mediocre.
