Los Laureles Lodge
Reviewed 18 November 2012

My wife and I travelled to Carmel Valley for a wedding at the Bernardus Lodge which is one of the nicest and most expensive hotels in the area. There was a room block at the Bernardus and the Los Laureles Lodge. The rate at the Bernardus was about $500 per night - a bit too much for our blood. Los Laureles Lodge is about a mile from Bernardus, and the rate was $150. It apparently used to be a horse stables a long time ago. Now each horse stable is converted into a guest room. It has a very rustic feel. Nothing really bad to report about the hotel. It wasn't a very modern place, but we weren't really expecting anything amazing. It was a good, inexpensive option where there are VERY limited options. There were a couple bugs in the room here and there, but it feels like you are in a cabin, so it wasn't too much of a shock to see. A huge herd of wild turkeys rolled through the property which was cool to see. The hotel offers complimentary coffee and continental breakfast in their quaint lobby area which was a nice value add. The wifi is average. A little spotty and not very fast.

This was our first vacation in Carmel Valley, and we were lucky enough to stay at Los Laureles Lodge. The staff were very friendly, the food was delicious, the pool was great , and room 28 was quiet, with knotty pine walls that I love. We'll definitely stay there again!

We weren't sure what to expect when you book a room that was once stables, but we were very pleasantly surprised! Wonderful grounds, quaint clean rooms and excellent, friendly staff. We had dinner package several nights, enjoyed an outstanding rack of lamb. Loved the ambience and lovely country feel. Will definitely be back soon!

We have stayed at Los Laureles Lodge twice now and every time we need a place in Carmel Vally that is where we will stay hands down! The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and quaint. The food and service in the bar/restaurant is fantastic! The landscape is beautiful with the mature oaks and lovely flowers. It's all you could ask for and more!

I cannot say enough good things about this beautiful place. We have stayed here many, many times. When we moved from Malibu to the monterey Peninsula, this is where we landed for a few days while settling in to our new home. The place has everything. The guest rooms are clean and well maintained. The grounds are well kept. I love the bar - guaranteed to be full of locals on Friday nights! The restaurant is one of our favorites. Service is excellent and the staff is charming. If you need lodging anywhere between Carmel Valley and Monterey, give yourself a treat and stay at Los Laureles Lodge.

I went here with a friend who had made this his home away from home in the 1960's. It was full of memories for him and the changes and improvements made over the years made it a very wonderful memory for us to share. We had a quiet drink on the porch in front of our room before going over to the resturant for a great meal on the patio by the fire. Finished off the night in the bar where we were joined by two couples who we made friends with easily. Turned out to be another retired San Fransico policeman, just like my friend! Such good times and a great overnight stay!

Room Tip: Our courtyard room was private and quiet.

Stumbled upon Los Laurels after an article in Sunset magazine. Quaint and charming (thanks Les and Mike!!). Add on the wine tasting and restaurant package - it's well worth it. We were not expecting the restaurant to be SO good (and the service too - thanks Livia!!).
