“Gracious Hospitality, wonderful locatio”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

I've stayed twice now at Carmel Valley Lodge for an annual conference Both stays were delightful. The staff is gracious and helpful, the gardens (including lemon and avocado trees that produce fruit!) are gorgeous, tranquil, and well-kept, and little extras like a sauna are much appreciated. Most of the rooms have fireplaces and kitchenettes, and some of the cottages have full kitchens. Breakfast is included and is always fresh. For folks like me who need protein in the morning, there are always hard-boiled eggs even though it's nominally a continental breakfast. They have lots of videos you can borrow, games you can borrow, and decent wireless internet service to boot. The décor is more rustic than modern, but it suits the setting well. There are restaurants and minor shopping in walking distance, and both Carmel and Point Lobos are within 15 minutes drive, and Big Sur isn't much farther. You're away from the busy tourist-y part of Carmel, with stunning mountain views and easy access to the coast. Doesn't get much better than this!!!!

Room Tip: They have both single rooms and cottages with two bedrooms, complete with kitchen and separate dinin...

Dated decor but has that old Carmel look and feel and enjoyed it very much - set in the woods in the Carmel Valley a clean lovely place to stay with free continental breakfast (make your own waffles, juices, toast, cereal, coffee) nice pool for kids, walk to local restaurants and groceries. A very quiet charming place to stay - well recommended outside the downtown Carmel crowded area. Great and affordble for families!!! Loved the separate living room area from bedroom too!!! Dogs welcome too which is great.

Room Tip: Ask for their comfortable king size bed rooms

This is a wonderful location for a group retreat or small conference. You won't find a friendlier or more hospitable proprietor. The service staff is unobtrusive and effective. I look forward to being here, again.

We stayed at the Carmel Valley Lodge last week and enjoyed every minute. We stayed in one of their cottages which had been totally redone. It had a lovely living room with a gas fireplace, a dining table and a fully equiped kitchenette with a full-sized refrigerator. There was a separate bedroom and a very nice bathroom area.

The staff was delightful and helpful, and Peter, the owner, greeted his guests every morning at the very ample continental breakfast.

The swimming pool, a major reason for our choice of the Lodge over other venues in the area, was spotless and maintained daily by long-time staff members, even checking the PH and chlorine levels.

We really enjoyed our stay and will go back again, soon, we hope!

Stayed here on night for a wedding (July 13, 2013) and we were in room 6 - king bed. The room was a little dated, but functional, but we just did not sleep well - the mattress was too soft. The hair dryer was very low power. Everything else was great - the desk service and reservation service were exceptional, the pool are was great (just the right temperature), and the breakfast was the best ever! Good ice machine and nice little private outside patio too. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausage, an amazing assortment of fresh fruit, several juices, several dry cereals, coffee and tea. The hotel desk also gave us wine tasting passes to several wineries in town - which is an easy 10 minute walk, which we enjoyed. If you are a poor hotel sleeper (like me), may be worth going elsewhere.

Stayed for 1 night only. Arrived really late so was afraid that there would not be anyone at reception. However, key was left outside the reception door with our name and directions to room. Good, clean rooms. Little old but cozy. Decent breakfast. Only drawback for us was that it was out of the way a little since we were headed to Big Sur from Carmel. One has to drive into the valley for good 20 mins off Rt 1 and then back out again. Nothing on the lodge there though.

This is a nice change from large chain hotels. The rooms are clean, the bed was good, and we had a fireplace with makings for sum'ores. The staff was friendly, the landscaping beautiful, and the pool, jacuzzi and sauna were welcome amenities. It has an extensive and delicious breakfast, described as continental. The Lodge is within walking distance to Carmel Valley Village. My only concern is that the rooms need to be updated. They look the same as they did 14 years ago, the last time we were there. It was, however, a very restful, and a bargain compared to other facilities in Carmel Valley.

Room Tip: If you want a fireplace, you have to ask for one, as not all rooms have them.
