“Not too bad a stay.....”
Reviewed 29 October 2011

we stayed for 2 weeks recently at this resort travelling from the UK. .First impressions were ok, apart from the persistant ladyon the concierge desk insisting we drop by to pick up a car park permit....this procedure will involve you in being talked in to attend a time share presentation with hard sell...dont do it ...the apartment was ok....tired but ok ...Clean and well serviced but in need of up-dating.
we have travelled a lot in Southern California and used this place as a base. The golf course was poor....the clubhouse closed......so if you want a drink or food you need to venture to palm springs or palm dessert since there are only fast food joints in the immediate neighbourhood.....i have one complaint....the pool was noisy with loud music but even worse the water was cloudy on both occasions that we tipped out toes in which means the filtration does not work very well. They have a clubroom where they have a daily programme of rather mindless activities which you will recognise from hospitals for the insane...bless..Most of the clientel was american / hispanic & geriatic, which reflected in what was on offer here.....staff are helpfull and friendly ( apart from the timeshare lady tout ) who left several messages on our answerphone.
all in all not bad since cleanliness is next to goddliness and there are no complaints in that department. If you are looking for a base to tour then this is perfect, but i would hate having to spend every day at the resort.....its not a resort to hang out for any lengh of time.
We ended up here because out favourite resort ( shadow ridge - palm dessert ) was fully booked but by saying that i would tolerate another week if i had no choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor overlooking the gold course and mountains...

Having read the latest review prior to staying at this resort, I was quite worried. Now I am not sure if we stayed at the same place. This was a very nice resort. The room was clean and well stocked (including toiletries) The towel policy made perfect sense -- you leave the same number in your room that were there when you arrived. The pool towels were clean, large enough and the staff happily exchanged wet ones for dry ones. There were gas grilles, though we didn't use them. The pool area was very pleasant and the snack bar had good salads (that's all we had). I also should mention that the front-desk and timeshare staffs were very pleasant and made good recommendations for food. Finally, the people at the golf course were very flexible, allowing us to play our 18 holes over two days (without charging us twice for rented clubs).

Are the Marriott or Westin properties nicer? Probably. But we would gladly go back to the Welk Desert Oasis if that was what was available when we made our reservations.

Room Tip: There pool views, mountain views and parking lot views. We had the latter and it was fine. Call ah...

We are back again Palm Spring area after 1 week break. This time we are staying at the (Welk Resorts Desert Oasis) this place is very tight and accounts for everything. They place limits and restrictions on total # towels issued...They give you worn towels and at the time of your departure if you are missing one towel you will be charged $10 per towel . They will not provide shampoos and conditioners when you request so bring your own towels and tioletry too!!!!! They will give you a roll of bath tissue a day. And there is no washing machine or dryer in each unit. You have to go to the designated area and pay $1.00 each washing and drying cycle and buy your own detergent. And forget about BBQ, there are no gas grills (they have old charcoal brick grill). I don't know about you, but I won't come back here.

great location near cathedral city and palm springs....i found the resort to be underwhelming when compared to the Escondido resort. The rooms were very nice, but 1/2 the rooms have a parking lot view and there's only 1 pool and 1 jacuzzi for all of the guests to share.

I would say definitely a kid/family place for a vacation, not a romantic getaway. Though this trip was for our anniversary and the concierge recommended a nice restaurant for our dinner downtown that was lovely.

We stayed here for our anniversary weekend. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. The staff was super friendly, bubbly and helpful. I really appreciated their kind energy and the time they spent recommending restaurants for us to enjoy our stay. They also have a great game room for families with ping pong, pool, board games, puzzles, etc. We popped in at the "Welk-em" event which seemed to be super cute with family trivia, champagne, sparkling cider and popcorn. The only thing I have to say is it's a small resort. There's one main pool, one jacuzzi and one small adult lap pool all in the same area. If you are like us and are used to Welk's Escondido property, this will feel itty bitty to you. There is no restaurant on the property, but you are a very short walking distance to the restaurant at the neighboring golf course/country club. Overall it's a very nice place to stay, but it doesn't have the most exciting grounds.

We traded a week for a girls' trip at this resort. We were looking forward to floating in the pool while drinking beachy drinks. We knew the resort wasn't new so we didn't expect luxury. The check-in staff was very friendly and was able to honor my request for a pool view. The room that was reserved for us wasn't ready early (check-in was 4pm and I showed up at 2pm) but they offered to move us to one that was ready and closer to the pool. The reasons became clear as to why we were originally booked in the other room, throughout the week...family reunion staying in our building and windows with barely any insulation so noise from the pool was really loud. The unit was surprisingly spacious...large living area and large bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom hadn't received much updating; but all furnishings, carpets and linens were updated (updated from some of the pics we had seen online). There were two pools, one for all ages and one "adult lap" pool. We were so glad to have the adult pool b/c, like I said, there was a family reunion that literally staked out half of the chair/umbrellas and pool before 8am every day. The adult pool was very small and any conversations that were had were heard by the everyone in the pool. Both pools were warm like bath water. The pool side cafe was awful. We ordered chicken fingers and they served a breaded chicken breast cut into strips. We ordered a BLT and the tomatoes were yellow. We ordered a pina colada and it tasted like milk. We had read bad reviews of the cafe but were hoping things had changed. They had a large kids' activity center which would be great for families with children but it wasn't great for our girls' trip. We did water aerobics one day and the instructor could have cared less about her job. It was embarrassing. Be sure and keep your pool towels with you at all times and just exchange when you need fresh ones. We didn't know that and almost got charged $20/piece for 6 towels. Actually, just bring your own towels b/c they provide faded red bath towels which are so small and you have to use at least 2 just to cover one lounge chair. The location of the resort is perfect b/c it's in between Palm Springs and Palm Desert. However, if you plan on spending all of your time in either the Springs or Desert just pay the extra and stay there. There's plenty of parking on-site and it's free. We weren't hounded by time share salesmen but I heard they gave away 3 day vacations to Hawaii. Overall our stay was just ok. I think we would go back if it's a last minute trip and can't find somewhere else. I think if you're looking for a kid-friendly vacation this would work great for you but it just wasn't what we were looking for.

Room Tip: Only two floors, half have parking lot view, half have pool, first floor rooms have balcony access...

We normally stay at the Desert Spring Marriott Villas II every year in April. This summer we had the opportunity to stay a week at Welk's Desert Oasis in July as well. It is not fair to compare the two but I was pleasantly surprised with this resort.

The staff is fabulous, everyone you pass is friendly and outgoing and the kids who work (8am--10pm!) in the activities center earn their pay in the summer. It was 111 degrees for three of our days and the rest were 108 so a good part of the day the kids were in playing ping pong, pool and doing crafts. The pool stays open late (11pm) so expect to see kids of all ages in the pool until then, it was quite funny since it was so hot, the pool was generally empty during the day and then packed at night. They had a movie night by the pool one night and they offer movies for rent for your room, two DVD players and flat screens in each unit.

The units are furnished comfortably but only sleep four with no lock out option. This is on a king and a pull out couch. The kitchen is fully stocked with any and all cooking supplies you may need. This provides for cooking all of your meals, as in any timeshare. As far as we could tell, the garbage disposal was not working, they have installed a catch over the drain so nothing goes down. We just made sure to take the trash down every night. Every Wednesday they have a towel exchange if you don't want to pay for maid service. Please NOTE, hotel goers: this is a timeshare property, even if you rent a room for one night you are not going to get maid service without paying for it. Think of it as a condo rental.

The grounds were kept immaculately, freshly planted flowers and green grass everywhere. Our unit in the Eucalyptus building over-looked the pool, be sure to ask for either a pool or golf course view otherwise you are guaranteed a parking lot view!

The location of the resort is right between Palm Springs and Palm Desert so you can go either way quickly. We shopped at the Westfield Mall, didn't make it to El Paseo because of the heat and ate at Las Casuelas Nuevas...would not recommend. We had poor service and the bill for one adult and two kids was $75 before tip with one small, bad margarita. Pass on that one. The fountain at Cathedral City City Hall is great to check out, as previously mentioned by a reviewer. Elmer's for breakfast is a must right at the entrance to Palm Springs, eight miles west on Hwy. 111, have the puff pancake.

We may not be back for another stay because we own at Desert Springs but will keep it in mind if the Marriott properties are booked or we have an extra week with RCI.

Room Tip: Request pool or golf view, no elevators so request ground floor if you do not want to schlep luggage...
