“Great Surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2013

Last minute weekend get away to the Central Coast started here and really was a surprise! The suite we stayed in (Champagne) was roomy, clean, and well appointed, the best accommodations we had while on this get away. Location offered an easy walk to dinner, shops and beach. The view from the balcony offered up sunset, ocean and beach vistas. The staff was polite, friendly, and very helpful.
We will be coming back to this great little gem in Cayucas.

Room Tip: The upstairs suites are what you would expect at a $500+ night coastal resort, book one of these.

There are simply not enough superlatives in the English language to describe what awaited us when we arrived at the Cayucos Sunset Inn. My wife and I were travelling around California to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and our only regret about the Cayucos Sunset Inn was that we only booked one night there! The staff who greeted us on arrival were extremely helpful and friendly and offered good advice for local eateries. We had reserved the Sunset room which was quite simply the best room we have ever stayed in. The furnishings were superb, the bed sumptuous (a small two step stool is provided to help you get in it!), the bathroom luxurious with whirlpool bath and the large private balcony an absolute delight with great views of the sea. Wine and cheese were served at 5pm enabling us to meet other guests and milk and cookies delivered to our room at 8pm. The breakfast in the morning was freshly prepared and oh so tasty! We will remember the Cayucos Sunset Inn very fondly when reminiscing on our first trip to California and if we ever return this piece of heaven on the Californian coast will be our first port of call. If you are looking for anywhere to stay in this area I cannot recommend the Cayucos Sunset Inn highly enough.

It was relaxing to be here. Exceptionally nice rooms and people. Being able to quickly walk to dinner, the beach, antique shops, post office, cookie store is great. The evening happy hour has an excellent choice of Central Coast wines. The staff is local and know where to make great dinner reservations and how to get to all the attractions.

Room Tip: There is no swimming pool or exercise facillity. But who needs it when you can walk to the beach?

We stay as often as possible at this wonderful inn. The breakfast is outstanding as is the wine and cheese each afternoon. I love the casual atmosphere of Cayucos as it is so close to so much, Morro Bay, Harmony, Cambria, Hearst Castle and the ocean. The Inn is close to everything in town, no need to drive anywhere. The staff is what really make this place special. They are all outstanding! I am treated as a member of the family each time I stay there. I can't wait to go back again!

Great Hotel. Delicious food and outstanding service with local knowledge. Highly recommend Sunset Inn. Walk everywhere in town and to the beach. Wine and cheese happy hour, warm cookies at night and a delicious breakfast in the a.m.

We have stayed at 5 star resorts in places like Florida, New York, Las Vegas etc, and although they all held the 5 star rating each one had their own comfort levels and amenities. We did not know what to expect at a B&B. My husband was very reluctant as he is not very social (unlike my self) lol.
When we first arrived, the front door was locked and we had to ring the bell for the "Inn Keeper" to greet us at the door and let us in. This was the first "hmmm"
As we were checking in, she asked us if we new what we would like for Breakfast. We really didn't know how to respond. Was she asking because we could choose to have them make anything I would like, or just asking what we like to eat for breakfast in general?. She must have seen the confused look on our faces and offered more information. The chef had two choices for us: Blueberry waffles with fresh fruit or Spinach Quiche. We both chose the Waffles. This was the second "hmmmm" She explained that there was a wine and cheese time later in the afternoon in the dinning area. We are not wine people but thought that was nice for those who do. As she was wrapping up the check in paperwork, she asked us if we would like milk and cookies tonight? "hmmmmm". We didn't know what she was talking about, but anything to do with cookies and milk will always get a "yes" answer. lol.
We were only staying for one night on business so we chose the bottom floor. It was at the back of the Inn by the back door and ice machine. This posed no problems at all. We heard the occasional footsteps of the room above, but again very minor and wasn't an issue at all. We walked around the town a little, and then walked over to Shanty's for an early dinner.
We decided to embrace the new B&B experience and try the Cheese and Wine. I was respectful and only poured just a little wine in my glass as to not waste it. I took a sip and well lets just say I'm still not a wine drinker. My husband also not a wine drinker, took a big gulp to finish the glass and made a horrible face. "he took one for the team". I'm sure anyone that enjoys wine would love this relaxing time. We did spend time out on the front porch relaxing watching people walk by.
We are not night owls and turn in early (we are only in our 40's) yes we get made fun of all the time by our friends. oh well. Anywhooo..... we started to think about what the cookies and milk meant. About 8 o'clock I opened the door to check and see if there was a note of where to go or something, and at the exact moment I was face to face with the cookie and milk delivery gal. I think it scared us both. The cookies were still warm wrapped up with a cute ribbon and the milk in glasses submerged in a bucket of ice. We both agree the peanut butter cookie was our favorite. I think this is the 4th "hmmmm" or should I say "YUMMMM"
Breakfast was served in the dining area. The waffles were amazing, with Juice, Water or Coffee.
Although I did see the Quiche and will try that next time, looked good.
When we were checking out for the day, Tracy was fantastic on telling me all the great places to check out in town (while my Husband was doing business) :)
I send all kinds of photos to my parents who stay at B&B's all the time. They are excited to try out the Sunset Inn.
Thank You for a great New Experience

This was the second time we've stayed at Cayucos Sunset Inn, and would highly recommend it. We've rented houses in Cayucos and visited other hotels/inns, but this is the one we'd go back to. The upstairs rooms are large, lovely and have wonderful views of the ocean. It's within easy walking distance to the beach and downtown. Plenty of parking. Great breakfasts and fun afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres. Lisa (the owner) is just great!

Room Tip: We've only stayed in upstairs rooms with views, and would recommend that.
