The proprietors of this B&B have put a lot of thought into the little extras that make for a great stay (i.e. cookies and milk before bed, a gourmet breakfast menu, great customer service). We thoroughly enjoyed it and will stay again.

We recently spent two nights at the Cayuos Sunset Inn and loved it. The rooms were clean and beautifully appointed in a simple French country style. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a suite with a balcony and an ocean view. It was perfect! The care was evident in the little details. Nice breakfasts, great showers, nice bedding and even cookies and milk at night. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Highly recommended.

One of the best getaways we have experienced in thirty years. From the moment we arrived, Gina and her staff were wonderfully welcoming. Our room was extraordinarily beautiful as well as comfortable and our daily breakfast was gourmet quality served in a casual atmosphere. We can't wait to return!

Wow! My husband and I wanted to get away for 2 nights in Cayucos where we have spent some day trips but never over night. We ended up booking the Sunset Inn based on some of the reviews and liked the idea of a complimentary breakfast and Jacuzzi hot tubs. This was a total spur of the moment idea, we made the reservation the morning of.

Once we arrived we were greeted by our host, Sandi, who took us to our suite. We had booked the Queen, but she upgraded us to an upstairs balcony King suite! We were blown away by this! How thoughtful! Then she asked us what we would like for our breakfast - the selections were incredible! Homemade chili relleno quiche with bacon or sausage or pancakes or granola with yogurt and fresh fruit with all the above! We had time slots to choose from for our seating starting as early as 8am and going to 10am. Then we were told by the Sensational Sandi that a hosted wine and cheese hour would be from 5 - 6pm! Perfect!

Once we got settled into our room, we went for a walk, enjoyed some window shopping and then went back for the wine and cheese spread. There were 3 wines being offered and about 6 different types of cheeses, salami, olives, crackers, hummus, fresh veggies and Bing cherries! Then Sandi booked us a very special dinner at The Cass house which was an incredible experience - 14 courses!! Whoa! And like we didn't eat enough already, when we came back to our room there was freshly baked cookies that Sandi had made with 2 glasses of milk waiting for us at our doorstep. Very nice touch, and the first time I've ever seen that before!

We slept like babies. The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were great too. Nothing worse than crappy pillows. Our second day there Sandi had booked us a couple's massage in our room. Our masseuses were great and it was only $180 for both of us for 75 min! followed by a dip in the Jacuzzi tub, I was in Nirvana to say the least.

We will definitely be back and look forward to our next trip! It was just perfect in every way!!

Room Tip: The Champagne Suite was our room - loved it!

Cayucos has been a getaway destination for my wife and I for the past decade. Unlike Pismo or even Morro Bay, Cayucos still has that small beach-community ambience that is becoming less commonplace along the central coast. We had previously stayed at On the Beach and Cass House, both with a long list of both pluses and minuses. My wife's perusal of the TripAdvisor reviews seemed to indicate that the Cayucos Sunset Inn (henceforth referred to as CSI) had what we were looking for in a high-quality B&B: Plenty of room, views of the ocean, and a list of attractive amenities, including air conditioning (the latter may seem like an absurd requirement given the location, but all you have to do is spend one week of harsh summer heat at the beach without a breeze and no A/C to have a pleasant vacation turn into a sleepless nightmare). The CSI provided all of the above, plus a variety of extras one would usually expect at a more formal resort (exceptional breakfast, Egyptian cotton sheets, plush robes, themed rooms, milk and fresh-baked cookies delivered to the room each evening, etc.). We stayed in the "Bali Room", a somewhat Indonesian-themed suite with a separate reception/living room, a divided bathroom (double sinks, vanity and jacuzzi tub in one room, the toilet and large walk-in shower just across the hall), a decent-sized sleeping room with a king bed, and an ample balcony with very good ocean views ("very good" as opposed to "exceptional" since the hotel is located on the east side of the street rather than the west (ocean) side. The geography of this part of Cayucos is such that the closest beach is about 30 feet below the bluffs, but the ocean is still clearly visible, and there is a great vista featuring the famous Cayucos Pier and shoreline when one looks to the northwest. Given the beach noise associated with the On the Beach B&B and the non-ocean views from most rooms in at the Cass House, CSI gets the award for the best resort ocean views in Cayucos.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We experienced a few minor hiccups, such as having to inquire multiple times before we were able to receive HBO in our room as advertised (our unit had to be "reset"), needing to ask more than once for a clock in the room, and having to ask several times to get half-and-half for the in-room coffee maker (of the now commonplace "coffee pod" variety), but these were trivial matters that in no way detracted from the overall experience of our stay. Wine and cheese were offered daily from 5 to 6 pm, and I would have liked to have seen more variety in the wines offered from night to night (our two choices each night were the same local Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio, both mediocre but certainly quaffable). The breakfast quality was very good, each morning being offered either a sweet or savory entree, preceded by a fresh muffin or scone. It was also helpful that breakfast was offered at 30 minute intervals from 8 to 10 am, making it possible for those of us looking for a restful, laid-back experience to have a leisurely 9:30 am breakfast, usually unaccompanied by other guests (there are only nine rooms at CSI, and it appears that at least during our stay, everyone else were early risers).

In sum, the Cayucos Sunset Inn certainly met or exceeded our expectations. Given the small size of Cayucos (a large part of its charm), having such a fine resort-quality B&B along with some of the best restaurants on the central coast (Hoppe's Garden Bistro, Cass House), our five-day respite from the heat and stiffling air of Bakersfield was both peaceful and enchanting. With uncrowded beaches, quirky antique stores, great food of all types (not only haute cuisine, but also outstanding fare ranging from freshly smoked albacore tacos from The Smoke House, the best fruit pies and pastry ever at Pieman's Pies [watch out, Linn's of Cambria], to Martin's phenomenal "works" pizza), and a fabulous place to collapse at the end of the day, what is not to like?

Room Tip: Any of the upper suites should have the great views of the ocean; the bottom rooms will not.

We booked the Sunset Inn for three nights to celebrate our anniversary. We really wanted to like this place, because it has a lot of good features. However, a lot of small problems tended to curb our enjoyment. The first incident came at arrival. They advertise checkin between 3 and 4 pm. We arrived at 3:30 to find our room not ready. We waited an hour. We tried the room key in the deadbolt, which didn't work, then success with the door knob. (A few days later, while we were in the dining area, a guy came in and said that his room key didn't work. The lady went into the office and was fiddling with the keys. I went up to him and said: the key works in the door knob! He thanked me and went on his way. You would think that checkin would include how to use your room key.)

When we returned to our room the next day in mid afternoon, the room had not been made up. Since I wanted to take a nap, we asked that the room be serviced later. It never was.

The room has a coffee maker that uses K-cups for individual servings. I tried for two days to get it to work. I suspected that the little blade that punctures the bottom of the K-cup was damaged. Sure enough, when I took the part down to the kitchen, we looked at another machine, and discovered the problem. I was given a new part, which worked ok on the bottom of the cup, but a few times, the machine failed to puncture the top of the cup. As an owner of a Keurig machine, which works fine, I can suggest replacement machines. Apparently we are not the first to have problems with the coffee makers in the Inn.

The Inn serves wine and cheese every afternoon from 5-6pm. (A photo on the web site shows a board with 4-5pm.). There are two wines- a Pinot Grigio and a Pinot Noir. The same two wines all three days! The cheeses and other nibbles were pretty good.

The breakfasts each morning were very good. We were given a choice of times and main course. The morning coffee was just OK and the orange juice was clearly not fresh squeezed.

On the morning of our departure, we requested the early 8:30 breakfast. Both the door from the second floor and the front door into the dining area were locked. Apparently the staff had forgotten to open the door from the second floor, where our room was. Finally, a couple in the dining area who were in a ground floor room noticed our problem and opened the front door.

About our room. It is advertised as an ocean view room. Well, you can see the ocean - over the buildings across the street and with the utility wires directly in front of you, dividing the view into above and below the wires. There are two parts to the suite, the bedroom and a sitting area, both with tvs and fireplaces. A bit of overkill. The in-room guide has a list of TV channels, none of which correspond to the actual channels on the TV. Good luck finding a favorite channel among the 50 or so available.

Finally, when it was time to check out, there was no one in the office. The server in the kitchen said just leave the key. No one to wish us well and ask how our stay was. Maybe they already knew. During the whole stay, we got the impression that no one really cared much about making our visit a good one.

Room Tip: The bigger rooms on the second floor with a "view" are not worth the extra money. The gro...

This B&B is a rare gem - it's located within short walking distance (2 blocks or so) from the beach and pier. The exterior is lovely and looks brand new, with lush landscaping (palm trees and trellised vines). The interior is beautiful and clean and homey, but not old fashioned and dated. We stayed in the Lanai room. Our room had an extremely comfortable bed, a built in entertainment center, a fridge, large jacuzzi tub, marble counters, hard wood floors, high ceilings (at least 10 feet) and a ceiling fan. It also had a balcony with a seating area. The decor was beautiful and felt like an expensive resort room. The price was extremely reasonable! The staff was so friendly and accomodating and the other guests were fun. The food was very good and not too much in terms of quantity or heaviness. The cookies and milk are delivered to your door! It was one of the best places I have ever stayed and the town was great! I will be coming back whenever I have a chance. I can't recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms look like they have an ocean view, but I didn't see for myself. I think ever...
