“Bedbugs and poor quality and service for 145$”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2010

We stayed in this motel for one night in August and were really disappointed of the quality we got for the money (145$ for a double bed room). The worst part of our stay was to wake up from the bed and see the creature we were sleeping with: BEDBUGS! This room was probably no 19. We got at least one of the creatures with us and it ate our hands and back during the rest of our journey

Seriously save your money and stay at a different hotel! You might as well stay at Motel 6 and get more for your money! Paid about $100 for a Thursday night and it was a total rip off!
Make sure to bring your own shower cap because they provide the bare minimum - one soap and shampoo - that's it! I asked the desk clerk for two more pillows and it was like pulling teeth to get them. She asked me like five times why I needed more pillows because she had to tell her boss exactly why our room would have the extra pillows in it! - CHEAP SKATES!
The property is old and very dated - Not at all what the pictures look like on their website or others (expedia, priceline, etc.) The bed was rock hard - you would probably get a better nights sleep on the floor! They advertise that they have HBO but every channel on the TV was fuzzy with lines in it! The toilet took about 5 flushes to completely empty - total waste of water! To make things even worse I laid a black sweater on the comforter of the bed and when I picked it up to put it on it was covered in dog hair! GROSS! Don't stay here!

Well, considering my financial situation, I have not been able to travel for quite some time. But I have been staying at the Estero Bay Motel at least one a year for the last 10 years excluding 2008, 2009, and 2010. I have always enjoyed my stay, and have built a good relationship with the management. Most rooms are nice, and everything is clean, nice atmosphere. If you happen to be in the area, I would absolutely recommend the Estero Bay Motel in Cayucos, CA.

At 2AM on a weekday, this was the only local place with a lit vacancy sign. We had wanted to stay in nearby Cambria, but everything was closed by the time we arrived. From the moment we rang the bell, it was obvious that Estero Bay Motel was not going to be a welcoming place. Not only did the lady who answered the door make us feel guilty for waking her up so late, she passed judgment on us from first sight - she hemmed and hawed about whether to give us a room despite obvious openings, constantly reminding us that the other motel guests hate noisy room occupants and that we needed to be quiet. The windows of the room were open despite the fact that it was forty degrees out and pouring, creating a little ice box. The room smelled musty, furniture was outdated, bed linens were atrocious, layout was inconvenient, and the in-room coffee maker was set up about eighteen inches from the toilet. Dirty, smelly, cold, uncomfortable, and unwelcoming. Stayed for less than ten hours and it still felt like too many.

As one of only a handful of places to stay in Cayucos, we opted for the Estero Bay after noting that the 2 other motels featured in the Rough Guide were fully booked. The motel was minutes from the beach (saying that, in Cayucos, virtually everything is) and was on the main street running through the town. The room was clean and a decent size, with a TV, fridge and microwave situated around the vanity unit. I was amused by the layout of some of the features as the clothes rack and hangers were in the bathroom (suppose the steam would help get the creases out) and the tea and coffee making facilities were on the sink unit next to the toilet!! The bathroom was quite large and the shower was good and powerful. The staff at the hotel were extrememly friendly and attentive (the receptionist approached me in the morning to apologise for the palm trees shedding their leaves on the forecourt!!). Parking was good and straight outside the room door. We didn't have breakfast as we walked down Ocean Avenue and got a coffee and a pastry to go. Overall, I was happy to pay $120 for the night and did wonder if the other more popular motels would be more expensive for what I imagine would be a similar level of service.

The property is in the perfect location - one block from the beach and about 2 blocks from the cool quiet and cozy community of downtown Cayucos. You get what you pay for at this motel. While the outside of the hotel is very clean and inviting; the rooms are very old and outdated. The TV was from the 80's and the bed was very old and uncomfortable. Beware, the walls are very thin; you can hear everything going on in the rooms adjacent to yours. I was woken up at 4am to people talking nextdoor and could hear someone snoring all night long both nights. Skip the complimentary continental breakfast - it's not worth your time. The management was courteous but it didn't make up for my lack of sleep both nights. If you have another option in the area for the same price, I'd recommend staying someplace else.

This little motel was adequate. It was clean, and the room I stayed in had a little kitchenette (not sure if all of them do). That was a pleasant surprise, because refrigerators and microwaves sure are handy appliances to have in your room. The furnishings were sparse -- there was no place to sit except at the vanity mirror/desk or on the bed itself. And the bed, well, I could feel and hear the springs underneath me. They definitely could do with new mattresses. And it was overpriced -- over $300 for a two-night stay. If the mattress was new and comfortable, and the price well under $100 a night, I'd consider staying there again.
