Description: Hoppe’s Garden Bistro has been serving the highest quality Continental cuisine and the finest International and local wines, from our historic location in the heart of Cayucos, for over 13 years. Our team of professional, knowledgeable servers have devoted themselves to pampering our guests and delivering a sophisticated level of attentive service. The kitchen and bakery are abuzz early each morning as our chefs start their daily craft of making virtually everything by hand: breads, pizza dough, ice cream, cakes, pastries, stocks, sauces, pasta, smoked meats, sausages, cured fish – it all begins from scratch with our dedication to fresh flavors and creative seasonal cuisine.By the time Chef Wilhelm Hoppe opened Hoppe’s Garden Bistro in 2000, he was already recognized as one of the Central Coast’s most cutting edge chefs. His years in Morro Bay at Hoppe’s 901 and Windows on the Water won over the palates of many critics and the dining public. Chef Hoppe’s uncompromising use of the finest ingredients, skillful saucing and masterful plating won him respect as someone truly devoted to his passion. Chef Hoppe graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York and trained in Switzerland before settling here. His numerous accolades include Awards of Excellence from Wine Spectator and Le Cordon Bleu. Sadly, Chef Hoppe passed away in 2010.Today, Hoppe’s honors the man and his legacy: sourcing fresh, high quality ingredients, creating seasonally inspired flavors, and building long lasting relationships with growers, winemakers and patrons.

“Well Worth the Scenic Drive!”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

We (2 couples) enjoyed a food and wine marathon dining day with breakfast in San Simeon at the Cavalier Restaurant (morning stroll on adjacent beach), a fabulous picnic (food from Soto's Market and bread from French Corner Bakery in Cambria) at the beautiful mountaintop view tables of Calcareous winery with bocce ball in Paso Robles and a gourmet dinner around 6:15PM at Hoppe's Garden Bistro!

Here is a Google Map of our stops to include the other wineries (all highly recommended):
http://tinyurl.com/CA-Marathon-Dining (paste into browser)

Full Disclosure: We changed attire before dinner at The Old Cayucos Tavern & Card Room!

Not surprising, we were too sated to properly enjoy full entrees. Instead we each had a starter (Butternut Squash soup, Albacore Tostada, Red Abalone (Oscar winner) & Brussels Sprout Leaves) with 2 split entrees (Bone in Pork Chop and Filet Mignon) Also too stuffed for dessert (next time)

Our original intent was to order the tasting menu. But management requires everyone at the table to participate and you cannot split a tasting menu (next time). Improvising, we each tried a taste of all the presented servings.

The freshness of ingredients, seasoning blends and preparation of each course was absolutely delectable! Our server was fun (likes to surf) while providing just the perfect service pace (practices yoga) to properly savor our dishes. We brought a bottle of our own wine ($15 corkage) and ordered a nice Argentinian Malbec from the extensive and well crafted wine list. Between courses we toured the gardens (a little cool to sit outside) admiring the full ambiance of the facility. Simply a stellar dining experience!

Just another great day in California! Enjoy!

Hi Strands Danville,

Thanks for your thorough and thoughtful review of Hoppe's. The owners of the building take great pride in maintaining their gardens, and we certainly take great pride in providing memorable dining experiences at the restaurant.

Regarding the tasting menu, this is one of those things where we don't like to prevent people from enjoying our chef's creativity. Unfortunately, we've tried to do a tasting menu for partial tables, and it invariably ends up that those that don't order it end up waiting around an inordinate amount of time for their entrees to show up, while their friends are enjoying several courses in the meantime. There are certain times when the chef will offer a tasting menu to less than a full table, but in general, it's an experience that is meant to be shared by the entire group, together. We appreciate that you were still able to sample several different dishes on our menu, and have a great dinner together.

It looks like you had quite the adventure, and we are honored to have been a part of it. We hope to see you again in the future, and will be ready with some fabulous offerings, and desserts as well!

Thanks,

Brendan & Amanda

“New Owners-Excellent Meal”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

We've always liked Hoppe's, although the last few years it hasn't been consistent. We had a fabulous meal and met the new owners, who are doing a wonderful job bringing Hoppe's back to the wonderful restaurant it should be.

This hidden location needs to be advertised better! I LOVE this place! The food is amazing and the patio is very pretty. Thankfully a worker from local gift shop told me about this place, which I had missed my last 5 or so visits!

“Loved it!”
Reviewed 12 April 2014

We were happily surprised by our dinner here. Loved the abalone/pork belly appetizer, oysters. wine selection and dinners. People were casually dressed but the atmosphere was fairly formal, which when combined with great food, makes for a relaxed, memorable evening. Our waiter was great and knowledgeable about the locally sourced foods/wines. Would definitely go back.
