It's our second stay at lovely On the Beach B-n-B! I was just reading some other reviews for this property... I'm sure sometimes there are complications... but frankly I don't understand the careless, unkind, inaccurate way people write reviews! Perhaps they stay in hotels and eat in restaurants looking for things to complain about and blow out of proportion instead of looking for the good service, the unique advantages, the personal touches. On The Beach is just 10 steps from the sand and pier entrance. It's not brand new, but kept up VERY nicely! Each staff member is unique and brings to the experience their personalities and skills--cooking, hospitality, concierge, housekeeping. The open windows after twilight allow the cool breeze and sounds of the sea to permeate the room while the crackling fire throws shadows over the walls and comfy king sized bed. It's so cool! :) I wish we could live there! We spent only two nights, tried for 3 but they were all booked up-we'll book earlier next time!

Room Tip: Ocean View upper level will be our choice next trip! :)

This place was a little more pricey than some of the others we looked at along the main drag in Cayucos, but was certainly worth it!

Very friendly receptionists put on some complimentary afternoon wine/beer with a little bite to eat, which was great. The room was spacious, clean and had a balcony which overlooked the beach/pier. We also a Jacuzzi, and a a tasty cooked breakfast with coffee, tea and orange juice on tap.

Room Tip: We had a downstairs room with a sea view (room 4). If you can get this one its a winner!

this was the 3rd night B&B stay, in a trip down Calif coast. First, this is not a B&B, this is a clean hotel a block away from the beach; it is similar to a Hampton Inn that offers a minimal breakfast buffet. I booked my reservation through Orbitz, and the room specifics stated ocean view room with balcony. Upon check-in, the clerk stated Orbitz exaggerated the room description and the rate I booked at was for a street view. After I showed her my confirmation receipt from Orbitz, she stated I should have booked through them directly. "Take it or leave it" was her attitude. If Cayucos was more than a 4 hotel town, I would have moved. Clerk needs to learn customer service, and B&B categorization is misleading.

Room Tip: look at your other options before booking here; and make sure the hotel guarantees the room specifi...

Dan: I apologize for the front desk staff reaction to your check in. That issue will be addressed. We have spent the last 30 days on and off the phone with Orbitz, trying to get them to correct all their data. I can assure you the problem is on their end. We will attempt again to correct their descriptions. I am a little confused by your comments "we only have a minimal breakfast buffet" as we cook a full hot breakfast every morning from 9:00 to 11:00 am with such items as eggs Benedict, creme Brulee French Toast, etc. Is it possible you checked out before breakfast was served? We do put out at 8:00 AM fresh coffee, homemade gronola, bagels and fruit for parties who can't wait till 9:00. Also your comment that we are a block away from the beach, the beach is about 45' from our decks with the only seperation being a single car lane and a row of parking. We try to thoroughly describe this on our website. I would encourage you to contact Orbitz to let them know of their errors as we have done so numerous times and will continue to do so. Again I apologize for the front desk attitude and that issue will be resolved immediately.

The common areas of this property are appealing and clean. So we were surprised with the condition of our room (202). After check-in was completed we were promtply ushered upstairs and shown our room and we were directed to a small three ring binder for property information. The introduction to the property felt very impersonable and did not make us feel welcome at all.

The foyer area of the room was covered in large tile as was the bathroom. The rest of the room was carpeted in green carpet which had many discolored areas and was fraying in areas, particularly where the carpet and tile meet. There is a large armoire in the room which houses a television and has two drawers. Handles are missing from the drawer - classy. There is about an 6-8 inch clearance from the bottom of the armoir to the carpeted floor, but the carpet underneath looks as though it has not been vacuumed in quite some time.

The room had many knickknacks (on the mantle, shelves etc.) and weirdly placed furntiure (table and chairs in front of the fireplace). I am not a fan of knickknacks, but if you have them, then it is necesaary to pick them up and dust around/under them. I noticed on the mantle of the fireplace several hair barrettes which had been left by a prior guest. I did not touch them, but upon closer inspection of the mantle and the items on it, I was astonished by the layers of dust. And the dust bunnies were everywhere - on lamps, wooden bedframe, tops of fixtures etc. The wallpaper near the fireplace was peeling off from the wall in areas and discolored.

The white bed skirt was yellowing in areas and the white bedspread had yellow stains on it.

I cannot imagine anyone wanting to take a bath in the jacuzzi style tub (circa 1980). The grout was either full of mold or is peeling off. Not romantic OR clean.

The min-fridge was unplugged and when we opened it to put in several bottles of water the smell was horrendous. Why is it necessary to unplug the refrigerator between guests?

The balcony could be such a lovely spot. The decking could use a power wash and the railings a coat of white paint.

We were disgusted and I am certain that Anthony Melchiorri would be too. If we are ever back to Cayucos we will stay at the lovely Cass House. We had an amazing dinner there and loved the attention to detail.

Room Tip: Room 202, view of the Pacific is lovely from the balcony. Room was filthy.

Wanderingtravel: We greatly appreciate your feedback and are responding to inform you that we take all of our guest’s comments very seriously. We have spoken to housekeeping regarding the issues you have brought up. Furthermore, we have enrolled our key housekeeping personnel in a course at the local college which should strengthen the skills they already have and help with developing new ones.
We have been working with an interior decorator in an effort to update and redesign some of the units. The room you were in has been in queue for remodel and deep cleaning, however it was booked for 30 days solid and we could not start until recently. We are currently power washing the entire exterior of the building, as well.
In regards to the mini fridge in the room, it is company policy to unplug it every time the room is cleaned, in order to conserve energy. Housekeeping does not keep a copy of current occupancy, therefore some of the rooms are cleaned the day before an arrival and we try our very best to be environmentally friendly where we can. In order to prevent any confusion we ask housekeeping to unplug each refrigerator after a check out and place a note in the refrigerator itself, as well as our new Information Books to remind guests of this policy.
Again, we thank you for taking the time to review our property and want to let you know we took to heart your comments and are making all the above mentioned changes/ improvements and more. We sincerely hope you will reconsider and visit us again soon.

Spent 2 nights here as part of the journey up PCH from San Diego to San Francisco and delighted to find our room just as described on the website. Everything about it was comfortable and well thought out and the view over the beach and the ocean was to die for. Friendly and helpful staff and great breakfasts. Would highly recommend.

We had a lovely room with a deck to look out over the ocean. It was so calm and peaceful. Bed was super comfy. It has good parking for small cars - not so much for SUV's. Breakfasts here are awesome!

Second floor Romance Suite was just what the doctor ordered. Romantic, spacious, well appointed with a lovely ocean view from the second floor balcony.
The staff could not have been nicer. Each and everyone of the staff went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
The breakfasts were to die for. Each day's menu was different and delicious.

Room Tip: Spring for the ocean view rooms 201-204. The view just adds to the entire experience.
