“Well below par”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2006

Other than a decent breakfast, our stay was a massive disappointment, first and foremost because of the noise that has kept us up practically the whole night. The Bidwell House is located right on a main road with quite a bit of traffic, hence the noise. We could also hear snoring from across the wall. Then there were a few other negatives, particularly in the bathroom (defective shower fixtures, tub without enclosure or curtain, etc.). The overall feel of the place: a bit old, not particularly inviting, and definitely below the level of the other bed & breakfast we have visited in recent years.

We went to Chester to look at some friends' newly-acquired property. I was not expecting much. I had never even heard of Chester. Boy was I in for a treat! We had a lovely room with really sweet touches and a nice, big sunken jaccuzzi bathtub. Woodburning fireplace in our room, and a four-poster bed. If I remember correctly, I think it was 129 dollars. The room was WAY more than I expected. The town of Chester is really quaint and charming. Right across the street was a very nice spa where I was tempted to get a massage, but I ran out of time. There was a TERRIFIC Italian restaurant within walking distance, a unique and upscale home accents store right across the street, beautiful Lake Almanor right there, and last but certainly not least, A YUMMY BREAKFAST.!!! You could walk into the kitchen at any time for yummy cookies and coffee or tea, or to borrow a game to take to your room. Now I am looking for property up there also. I will DEFINITELY be back!!!! Stay here. You will be glad you did.
