“A Must-See for History Buffs”
Reviewed 26 December 2013

Bidwell Mansion and the history of the Bidwells are the cornerstones of Chico. The mansion has been impeccably retained, and the guides are extremely knowledgeable.

“The Bidwell Mansion”
Reviewed 21 December 2013

Bidwell Mansion, located at 525 Esplanade in Chico, California, was the home of General John Bidwell and Annie Bidwell from the late 1868 until 1900, when Gen. Bidwell died. Annie continued to live there until her death in 1918. John Bidwell began construction of the mansion on his 26,000 acres (110 km²) Rancho del Arroyo Chico in 1865, during his courtship of Annie Ellicott Kennedy. After their marriage in 1868, the three story, 26 room Victorian house became the social and cultural center of the upper Sacramento Valley. Now a museum and State Historic Park, it is California Historical Landmark #329[1] and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mansion was a $60,000 project, and was finished in May 1868.

“If I Could Turn Back Time”
Reviewed 29 November 2013

I LOVE this place!! I've toured countless times, insisting that every out of town friend or relative visit this wonderful mansion. History comes alive and each docent puts her/his personal favorite touch on the tour.

“A historical house worth visiting.”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Go when you are in Chico and you have to take the tour to see the inside. Very interesting and the founder of Chico and his wife lived here. Located right in the center of town and near CSUC campus.

“Bidwell Mansion”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

This is an amazing part of Chico! Built by the Founding Father John Bidwell for his wife Annie it is a house that was way ahead of its time with electricity used as well as gaslight.....this is a MUST SEE for any one who loves history! Many of the trees & other flora were planted in an area at that time that weren't known to be local.
