I've been all over the globe, but every time I come back home to Chico, I always look forward to the perfect petite fillet that I can get right here @ home.

“As expected”
Reviewed 14 January 2014

We eat here often as it offers good wines and beef. It is always a little load but the service and food over shadow the noise most of the time.

“ALWAYS THE BEST STEAK IN CHICO”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

Our soon to be 21 year old son took us out for a special night. We were celebrating Christmas holidays and his 4th month as a Lineman Apprentice, which had his pockets full of dough.
If your going to have a steak in Chico this is the place to go. But my wife had the encrusted Mahi Mahi which looked spectacular but she wasn't offering any tastes. I had a special rib eye that was Parmesan cheese influenced for a wonderful effect. The son just the man sized Rib Eye that was fork tender and cooked exactly as ordered.
What we always like is the help. They always employ the best. Lately some of that help includes a member of my son's wrestling team, and two Eagle Scouts that were under my tenure as scoutmaster. It was like old home week, and one of the Eagle Scouts bought our desert.

This is not a chain, it owned by local and run in a top notch manner. Better than Ruth Chris anyday.

“EXPENSIVE FOR THE MENU AND SERVICE”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

In any other but this wonderful community of Chico, 5th St. would be considered a middle level steak house. Notice there are no prices on the website menus.

We have eaten at 5th Street 3-4 times in the past two years, usually at the request of our guests. On each occasion the service was at best modestly attentive.

The steaks are well cooked and well served but plan to pay between $25 and $40 for a meat entree. Side dishes are extra. The pasta dishes are completely ordinary except for the price which is extra-ordinary. The salads are attractively served with fresh ingredients.

The wine list is modest with glasses at $8-$10 and most wines over $30/bottle. At the bar we paid $7.50 for a well cocktail and $9.50 for a cocktail made with a specified brand. The bartender had never heard of dubonnet and had to get help to locate it.

While I usually don't care for chains, in terms of quality of food, extensive menu and price/value consider Outback when in Chico or if you want a good steak in an independent restaurant consider Red Tavern or Albatross.

“Great Food, but...”
Reviewed 24 December 2013

First things first--the food here is fabulous. No question, no doubt. From the house wine to the bread, appies, salads, entrees and dessert, it is all wonderful. The downside is that this restaurant depends too heavily on it's kitchen to carry its reputation. Customer service is no longer as important as it's food. No reservations accepted on Friday and Saturday nights and a 2 hour wait is unacceptable. No sitting or waiting room when you DO have a reservation and they aren't ready to seat you yet. Dodging hostesses and waitstaff in the main doorway on cold winter nights is not comfortable. Having non-reserved folks be seated before you when you bothered to call for a reservation is not cool. Having your waitress forget your appetizer or take 15 minutes after meal's end to bring your check is not cool. Those are the things that disappoint me when you plan a holiday meal out and spend $40-$50 per person to make it nice. But again, kudos to the food preparers. They saved the night.
