Its silly things that make or break an evening. The place was busy, we waited for service - a little too long - they possibly needed another wait person. The lovely smile from Jennifer lit up the room and SWMBO - She Who Must Be Obeyed ordered a chicken special. It was declared very good. SWMBO ordered a wine that wasn't quite up to expectation, Jennifer immediately gave an alternative. No problem. Now my fish and chips! Splendidly crisp on the outside, beautiful moist fish inside - I'm from the UK - I know fish and chips. This is an excellent brewpub with enjoyable staff. It's a local, off the beaten track and filled with locals. My sort of place.

My fiancé and I recently started visiting different craft breweries along the west coast. We stopped by Anderson Brewery for a tour and to sample their different beers, because we are both fans of their Oatmeal Stout. We were somewhat disappointed in Anderson Valley, however the tour guide suggested we stop by Ruth McGowan's in Cloverdale. It was on our route south & it was lunch time so we decided to give it a try. So glad we did. The food was awesome, we liked every beer sample we tried (even took a growler to go), the atmosphere was great, restaurant was clean, and service was great as well. I would recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

We ate dinner here while staying at the Vintage Towers B&B. It was fun to taste the local beers, but the food was subpar. Go for the beer, not the food.

This is a good place to go for food and beer. They have "pub grub", fried food, but they also have healthier food like turkey wraps. The beer is very good and they offer 10 oz servings so you don't have to have a whole pint if you don't want to. The place is usually full and they have live music a few nights a week.

We actually went to the 'other' pub in Cloverdale before we ended up here after walking out of the first one. (Will review it next!) In retrospect, it was a smart move. This spot was a little loud, but only because it was full of happy customers. And rightly so. The server was very friendly and attentive, even though it seemed she was the only waitress. She was literally running. I had the fish tacos and they may have been the best I've ever had. Lots of cod, perfectly cooked and just the right amount of veggies, including peppers and onions. The salsa that came on the side was delish. Hubby had their fried chicken BLT. It was huge, but he finished it off along with two of the house-crafted beers. Later he kind of wished he'd stayed with just one beer, as he was SO full, but no regrets. They have picnic tables outside, but it also served as a smoking section, so avoid that if you object to smoke. Just a block from the main drag in the quaint historic section of Cloverdale, Ruth McGowan's is a sure bet!
