Stayed 4 nights for a Navy unit reunion. It was perfect for my needs.
My room was in the section behind the pool, off the alley so no street noise. As mentioned, it is an old property but the grounds and rooms were well maintained and very clean. The room was small but had updated cabinets and the bathroom had an updated vanity and fixtures. Small microwave and a dorm fridge, There are two gas grills next to the pool and two groceries within two blocks if you want to cook a meal. A deli/liquor store down the block and a couple of bar/restaurants in the next block. The Harbor Landing is another block away with more restaurants and shops. The Ferries to the Broadway pier and to the Convention Center are located there and are much more convenient and cheap than driving across and parking downtown San Diego.
HINT: The entrance is on Orange Avenue which is a divided boulevard and 3rd Street is the off ramp from the bridge and is one way. Turn right on Orange and make a U-turn on 2nd to access the driveway for the office. Otherwise use the alley from 3rd. Same applies if you are eastbound on Orange. 3rd Street is very busy in the a.m. as the entrance to the Air Station is up the street.
