“Simply stunning.......”
Reviewed 5 February 2014

Arrived in San Diego after a Panama cruise in November '13 and added a few extra days before flying home to England. There was only one hotel on my list (having stayed before) The Del !!
When we arrived, we were upgraded to a sea view room - what a view! The main entrance was not being used, and we had to go through the restaurant, which surprised us. We were even more surprised the next morning as 'Santa's little helpers' had worked their magic all over the hotel overnight. There was the most beautiful Christmas Tree I have ever seen in my life. I felt like a little girl again - the wonder of Christmas was all around!
Even more surprising was the 'ice skating rink' which was being built outside. How surreal ..... Drinking cold beer - by the warm sea - watching people ice skating- WOW!
Sunday brunch........where do you start........champagne (that's a good way to start!!) and every kind of food you could dream of. Lobster, shrimp, beef, chicken, the choice is amazing. You need to spend a lot of time there and pace yourself. I love people watching - and I wasn't disappointed. Couples in love - holding hands over the table, gazing into each-other's eyes. A group of ladies chatting and giggling, families together - from the youngest to grandparents. And us - my wonderful husband and me. Thanks to all at The Del for making it a holiday to remember.

Room Tip: It's worth having a sea view and balcony.

We visit San Diego frequently. When we have a new guest traveling with us, we head to the Hotel Del. Our last visit brought us to Babcock and story bar for lunch. The view is fabulous, food was outstanding, service excellent. We then tour the hotel and do some shopping. The woodwork is magnificent.
A must for any visitor to Coronado. I'm hoping to get there at Christmas time, rumor has it the decorations are stunning.

The del Coronado is not only a historical landmark, it is an outstanding hotel in a unique setting. All has actually been said already, and there is a lot of information out there, so I will try not to copy/paste what others have said much better than I could. The hotel atmosphere cannot be described properly, you need to experience it. You breathe history, you can feel it all around you, and even though everything is strictly state of the art here, you can easily imagine how this felt ten, thirty, sixty years ago. The rooms are comfortable and cozy, and of course have all the amenities you'd expect in this price segment. There are plenty of places where you can retreat for a drink or a bite, shopping is right in the hotel or on Orange Avenue, the beach is literally in the back yard. If you visit San Diego, this is wehre you should definitely should stay.

My wife and I recently stayed a week at the "Del" as it is commonly referred to by the locals. Coronado is a small peninsular off the coast of San Diego. The hotel offers something for everyone including pools, beach, hot tubs, several restaurants and friendly staff, etc.

Coronado is only a short drive to San Diego and San Diego has many attractions worth visiting such as Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, etc, etc.

Room Tip: Restaurant prices can be a little pricey, but many choices very nearby. We were on the 3rd floor of...

This iconic hotel is fun to visit and shop in the stores for a few hours, which is what we did. Everything about the place exudes old-time elegance, and creates expectations of comparable service. The view of the ocean from the outdoor veranda dining tables was irresistible; so we decided to order drinks and appetizers. Expensive, of course, but not a source of irritation. The inviting atmosphere cancelled any such concerns. However, the service was dismal. It took a long time for a waiter to take our order. When the order finally arrived, there were no napkins or tableware (not essential, except for the napkins). They were eventually brought to us after our hunger had taken us halfway into the modest repast. The clincher for bad service came when a hostess/party-organizer told us, in the middle of our meal, that she wanted to substitute our chairs for some other chairs. She was reorganizing the deck for some reason, and wanted our chairs so that the chairs in another area would match each other. We could have accommodated her, but I told her "no" emphatically. She went away. Bad form on the part of the hotel to make such a request. Visit the place anyway. The shops are nice.

I stayed at The Del for 4 nights to attend a conference. The hotel is beautiful and has a stunning view of the ocean, and the meals provided during the conference were delicious. My family and I had a room in the Ocean Tower with a partial view of the ocean. In this room we were able to hear everything our neighbors did. I could hear their conversation clearly! And from the bathroom I could hear our other neighbor blow their nose every morning and take a long shower. It was as if I were in the room with them. Be sure to bring extra cash for meals as everything is overpriced at this hotel. The Del is beautiful and the history behind it is very interesting, but not worth paying full price for a room...unless, of course, you enjoy sleeping in a museum.

I began staying at the "del" in 1964 with my family, and fell in love with it at that time. I've been back several times since, and with all the improvements they've made over the years I'm still impressed. This time I was there for business and had a suite that overlooked the beach - gorgeous! You have to stay in the old part (Victorian) to appreciate this hotel. It was the end of October (2013) and the weather was perfect. I can't wait to go back there.

Room Tip: I would definitely stay in the Victorian, where there is still so much charm, not the new buildings.
