Stayed here for two nights after I had gotten married. The Hotel is historic and we had always wanted to stay here. People should know upfront that there is a premium to be paid to stay at the Del. The rooms are small and the hotel is old. But there is a charm throughout and it is definitely a unique experience. There is a $20 per day resort fee which is stupid since the Del is not a resort. The beds are cozy and the bathrooms are nice and clean. A place to stay just one time in your life. If your hungry for breakfast take a walk down Orange Avenue and visit Clayton's coffee shop. Or if you're in the mood for a nice sidewalk dinner then be sure to visit Rhino's.

$1700 a night aint what it use to be!!!! Not worth the stupid prices thry charge and they nickel and dime you to DEATH!!! The staff knows nothing about nothing! We stayed in the BEACH VILLAGE and dont expect better service. They allow RIF-raf wonder through the hotel and will seat them for dinner BEFORE us that is paying $1700 a night. Most of the people (rif-raf) wondering around the hotel do NOT spend a dime here. Same lousy service for everyone. Watch out for Sheerwater cafe/ and other dining at the Del....the food is disgusting. Watch out for everything you order because it will cost you dearly. They charges us for valet 30$ a day when we did not even have a car??? Had to argue insanity with a manager that did not understand WHY...we refused to pay for parking a car we did not have....watch out for (add on) hidden fee's that will be every where on your bill? The staff is clueless to everything and have a dumb look on their face when asked a question....the response yu will get is ...I dont know....not sure....sorry, i will have to check..and on and on and on. No wonder Mariln Monroe to all those pills...lol

We stayed at the Hotel del Coronado for 5 nights. The hotel's location on Coronado is fabulous with views of Glorietta Bay and the Pacific. It's easy to get to from San Diego Intl Airport.
The grounds of the hotel are just lovely with lots of palm trees (don't get to see many where we live) and birds of paradise. Hummingbirds were buzzing about everywhere. One morning, about 20 or so seals swam past the beach. The pool is heated and there were plenty of lounge chairs in the shade and sun. The beach was huge and pretty clean, except for massive amounts of seaweed.
Check-in was smooth, and we were early so they have us the option of getting a garden view room immediately, or waiting an hour or so for a room with a view of the bay. We chose to wait and enjoyed lunch at Sheerwater, in the hotel, while we waited. Sheerwater has a spectacular view of the beach and ocean. The food was good, but not fantastic, and it was expensive, as are all the restaurants at the resort. We were glad we got a good room rate, b/c the cost of food was so high. The front desk called us within 1/2 hour to let us know our room was ready.
Our room was in the Victorian Building, which is the oldest, the one that's supposed to have a haunted room. The room was a decent size and the balcony was large with a big round table and four regular chairs and a rocker. The views were of the bay, and off to the right, the ocean. Fabulous. The closet was huge and gave plenty of space to store luggage. The bathroom was on the small side: one sink and almost no counter space. The tub/shower could have used updating, but the shower spray was strong. The bed was a little soft, but the pillows and linens were comfortable. My only real issue with the room was that housekeeping did a mediocre job. The bathroom was thoroughly cleaned, but on the first day they took all the rolls of toilet tissue, even the one on the holder, out of the room. No idea why, but I had to track them down in the hall and get two rolls. The room, which had plenty of wood furniture was dusty by the third day, but they didn't dust it. I mentioned it to the housekeeper, but my Spanish was too limited and she didn't understand the request. Also, in the in-room coffee service area, which is in a tray basket, there were two dirty plastic utensils that were from a previous guest and that was just gross. We noticed them our last day so we didn't get to bring it to housekeeping's attention, but we let the front desk know that at a hotel of this reputation, we wouldn't expect something like that.
We enjoyed the Tuesday night wine tasting at ENO and recommend it. It's a tasting, though, so expect tasting portions, a couple of sips. The cheese flights there were delicious. We had dinner at 1500 Ocean and it was quite good and the service was excellent. Again, the tesort restaurants are pricey, and ENO and 1500 are no exception.
The Spa was absolutely fabulous. I'd recommend a massage with Rob (whether you're a guy or a gal, he's good, just the right pressure) and a facial with Ashlee. The pool at the spa has a wonderful beach/ocean view and is adults only and a great way to spend your day between or after treatments. The spa staff were friendly and helpful.
The Sun Deck Bar has great views and fire pits for chilly evenings. Nice place to have a drink but a pina colada will cost you $12.50. We had the hotel's famous Sunday brunch - amazing - many things for everyone, $72.50 per adult.
In town in Coronado, we'd recommend dinner at Candelas and Primavera. Both were very good, especially Primavera.
Overall, we had a really nice time at Hotel Del and would go back. It's beautiful and the staff is friendly and accommodating, the grounds beautiful with lots of opportunities for relaxing, and it's laid back yet elegant.

We splurged and stayed @ the Beach villages @ the del with the recent "fall specials" during a CME conference. If the view of the ocean wasn't enough, then the pools and the florals with the free buffet breakfast topped it off. Also, the turn down service included free shells placed on your pillows to take home as a keepsake. WOW!!! I will say we bought cheese, wine and fruit from a local market for our evening snacks in our room. We ate only breakfast there because we took in the Beach Boys concert one evening and a hot air balloon ride the other. I hear the meals are pricey, yet there are local markets and a refrigerator in the room. We didn't even get to enjoy the fire pits or night entertainment there. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did if you chose to indulge!

We had a family reunion so spent almost a week with other family members. It was special, but if it weren't for the name and location, it was really expensive ($500 a night) for what we got. Yes, the room was clean, neat, pretty, but not that spacious and luxurious. Don't forget the daily $25 daily rate and $25 self-parking rate on top of that. But you gotta go at least once, and most of my new family goes every year. Guess I've just stayed in so many different places in the world that I expected so much more. AND they put me in the new section, so possibly a stay in the Old Hotel would be work the extra stars on my rating. I'll let you know next year...

Without a doubt this hotel does not understand the word service. We made our reservation months in advance for an end of summer family vacation and were quite excited for a week of indulgent relaxation, fun and sun. We were disappointed at every single opportunity. Our room was unbelievably loud (next to a exterior door which banged all night and right in front on area subjected to mowing/trimming at 7 am.) Upon checking into the room, it was very stale and didn't seem to have been occupied or recently set up by housekeeping. The fan chain broke off in our hand when we tried to turn it on and there was no answer at housekeeping or the front desk, though we had only checked in about 10 minutes earlier. When we asked for a different room the next morning, we were told we'd have to be downgraded to a smaller room as there were no other suites available. There was no apology about this. We were given keys to what we discovered was an occupied room. There was no apology by the hotel about this either. The hotel lost our luggage while transferring it within the hotel to an unoccupied room they subsequently moved us to. Again, no apology. My son was stuck by a stingray during the hotel's surf camp and not only did the hotel not do a thing to help (or even check up later to be sure he was okay) they charged us in full for his lesson and my daughter's, although neither of them were able to complete it. They over charged us on check out, would not let us extend the room an extra 2 hours (unless we were willing to pay an extra half day fee) despite my explaining that we had lost a full day of our vacation treating my son from an injury incurred during their programming. As usual, there was no apology for that, as there had not been for anything else the entire week. It genuinely felt like we were in a hotel run by either Basil Fawlty or the three stooges. They did not miss an opportunity for bad service, or engendering dissatisfaction. They even sent a customer satisfaction survey after our stay, which I filled out in detail, listing all of the things which had gone wrong (the highlights are in this review) and no-one ever even responded. It is really tragic, because the setting and property are storied and gorgeous and the food was good. I was not expecting to be treated like the royal family, but a baseline of decent service and common courtesy shouldn't be an excessive expectation. Save yourself a ton of money and the aggravation - stay anywhere else, but go over to watch the sunset and have a drink.

For our family reunion we stayed at the Beach Village at the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, California (San Diego). We had a fabulous time. With nineteen family members - including 9 children from 1-14, this location was a perfect blend for all those who came.

The Beach Village is a private area - removed from the hustle and bustle of the main hotel. It is a gated 'community' with it's own private pools. In addition, all those staying in the beach village have access to the Windsor Cottage for free continental breakfast and just hanging out. We ate two dinners here as well out by the fire pits overlooking the beach. The kids enjoyed the pools, bike riding, the huge beach etc. We also spent time at Sea World and the Zoo which were fun and close by. Coronado is a cute town - a step back in time.

I highly recommend this hotel -specifically for the beach village. Although it is pricey and I was a little disappointed with some of the service we received considering how much money we spent. Overall though it was a fantastic trip.
