I was hosting three Korean children (9, 11, 13) on their first visit to America. Although I live in exciting Las Vegas a trip to the San Diego Zoo and the beach and Balboa Park seemed a down-to-earth homey idea. The staff at the Glorietta Bay treated these rather shy kids as if they were family and also as if they were royalty. Their names were remembered, breakfast with birds visiting the table delighted them and the afternoon "tea" with fresh lemonade and strawberries and gingersnap cookies made us all feel oh-so-special. The proximity to the 'Del' and the beach as well as the local attractions was fast and easy and the island traffic a lot more relaxed than in San Diego itself. On our final night we came 'home' to fresh to-die-for chocolate chip cookies and a champagne bucket with a pitcher of milk on ice. The fantastic service is from a century ago (as is the resort itself) and we cannot find a rating high enough for our wonderful experience at the Glorietta Bay!
