So firstly, our trailfinders advisor was the person who picked this hotel and she chose it as we wanted somewhere really nice to end our California road trip honeymoon. We had originally thought it was in San Diego as this is where we wanted to end our honeymoon, but it isn't. However, it's not far! A short journey out of Coronado and over the bridge and you're there in San Diego. We had hoped to be more in the thick of things but it definitely isn't like that. Coronado is a beautiful place, however, and I am glad we got to see it. When we got to our room (I think we had a luxury room), we thought it was gorgeous. The decor was more like a cosy, modern living room than a hotel and we instantly liked it. The bathroom was really big with a walk in shower and a separate big bath tub - unusual for American hotels and really nice. So in all we couldn't fault the room. The view was also gorgeous. We overlooked a harbour and could faintly see San Diego in the distance. There was a couple of drawbacks for us though. The distance from San Diego (which was probably a 15 minute car journey) wasn't that big a deal, but the food on offer to guests was extremely limited in the market, the casual restaurant and the cafe bit. The menus were the same and there wasn't much on them. It was also quite expensive for what was on offer. The second drawback for me was the bar staff. We had arrived quite late and we were hungry. I wanted to find out what the deal was on the food in the hotel so I went to the bar to ask the staff. There were 2 members of staff on duty. Not one of them came over to me even though I was standing there for a good five minutes. One of them was far too busy watching the baseball game on TV to pay any attention to his job or guests. This really annoyed us as I had to go right up to them to get their attention and practically shout "excuse me." We were so annoyed that we decided we wouldn't eat in the hotel at all, so we got the car and drove into Coronado for food instead. The snacks on offer in the room looked delicious but were so expensive we had to give them a miss. Other than that, the other members of staff here were lovely. We had to speak to them a few times and they were always very helpful, especially the concierges we spoke to and the receptionists. The guy that checked us in was exceptionally good and gave us lots of tips and congratulated us - very personable and lovely. Parking was easy and reasonable using the self parking. The pool area was great and very relaxing with an adult pool and a children's pool. The hotel was very accommodating for us when we left as we had a very late flight home, so they let us use the spa showers and changing rooms to get ready for our flights as we had to check out at 1. And I have got to say the spa area looked amazing. Great hotel if you want to be out of things and just relax with your family but not ideal if you want to explore San Diego more or have drinks in the city in the evening.

I have tried to write this review twice and for some reason it did not post....I hope it does now, because we really LOVE Loews Coronado (I would not do this for any other place), and you will see why.

The first time we went there we stayed one night. Everyone was so nice and it was such a great experience that we cancelled our Disneyland trip to stay for two more days. The second time we stayed two days in a suite and then had to stay one more day (we would have stayed longer but had to come back to New York)!

The staff at the hotel are just AWESOME and are so considerate. They bend over backwards to help make your stay a great experience. Angela (at their corporate headquarters), Daniella, Tiffany, and everyone else are fantastic! The rooms are not what you would expect, they are big and bright. For the price, this is an amazing value! Spacious is the best way to describe them. The suite was 750 square feet and huge. The views are amazing. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud...perfect night sleep. Housekeeping was tremendous as well. Service was as fast as you could ask for, even the bell service was super fast.

The pools are perfect for relaxing as well as having fun. One pool has a volleyball net, and they have fun games for the kids to play and win prizes (coconut smoothie was my sons favorite). The ping pong table was a big hit as well.

The shuttle service to the beach was fast, even when there were a lot of people (there were a couple times when they should have had a second cart going, but it didn't happen that often that it became an issue). Once we got to the beach we were dropped off by the towels, and if you are lucky you can get boogie boards and chairs (they are limited so try to get there early). Tiffany, if you are reading this, we had a conversation and I hope you always remember what I said. You are great and really shouldn't let some nuts bring you down. Folks, if they run out of towels, the bring them in about 10 minutes. They go right away and really do their best to make everyone happy. Unfortunately, some people were a little unrealistic and thought that the carts were time machines.

Food....yum....food by the pool is great! The kids loved the chicken tenders and tater tots...and ice cream. The little café has snacks, but is a bit pricey. The restaurant on the side is perfect, and one night we went to eat and were warned that every restaurant was backed up and it would take a while to get our food. We were not in a rush, so sat outside. We ordered, knowing it was going to be a while....they did bring bread at the beginning. About 15-20 minutes after we ordered, the waiter came with a pepperoni pizza, not just for us, but for every table! Nobody asked and I didn't hear anyone complain that the food was taking too long (everyone had been warned). I found that to be very considerate and represented my overall experience of the hotels consideration for our comfort! Our waiter was also very attentive and checked on us often.

So, was there a downside, well, a little. The internet was bad, to put it kindly. The hotel now charges a resort fee (they didn't last year) for services that used to be included in the room fee. One of those services was internet. I was told they were looking for a new vendor. If you need to do work here and require the hotel to provide a connection, you might not be too happy. I was told that the premium connection was just as bad. Hopefully they will have worked it out by now. And while we are on the subject, the "resort fee" is not much, but I would have liked it better if they just charged me that much more for the room and included all of that. It kind of gives the feeling of being "nickel and dimed." Also, parking is expensive and they charge overnight guests (people who pay for the room and the resort fee) $32/day for valet and $28/day to self park. Parking spots are tight, but none are a terribly far walk from an elevator. None of these are deal breakers folks! I mention these things because they obviously meant something to me, and I love the hotel and will come back as often as we can! Concierge service was great, and they are on top of everything for you! This hotel is great for families or couples.

I saved the worst for last....the worst part of staying here is having to leave!! :) See you soon, Loews!!!

Room Tip: The higher floors have better views. Suites are awesome, and the Villas have probably the best views...

Ok you have to pay a resort fee. But it's worth it.
Even just the golf-buggy ride to the beach (with towels, chairs & boogie boards provided at the other end for free) makes up for the cost.
Lots of other things on offer though - table tennis, tennis, swimming, exercise classes etc.
The rooms are very clean; the bedding scrumptiously crisp and the bathrooms massive.
What more can you ask for. Will definitely return ...
