This iconic coffee shop out of the 50's needs a good cleaning and a better cook staff. Sitting at the counter and looking at the obvious lack of cleanliness in this operation was only overshadowed by the cold canned chowder and cold tortilla soup that came from the kitchen. When we sent it back it returned tepid. If only the owners would sit at the counter and picture themselves as customers this icon could be returned to glory.

This place is full of people and I see why. The food is solid and the staff friendly. Sitting at the counter is fun, though I am not one for the old timey music in the jukeboxes. Food was tasty and we enjoyed our breakfast. I had the croissant egg with avo and he the omelette. (Ask for it to be undercooked just a bit.)

Kid friendly food, delicious milk shakes (peanut butter and jelly flavor!) And character! Didn't eat the pie but it was about 8 inches high and looked home made. Friendly service too.

Once you walk in you go back in time to the 50's but the place doesn't look old and run down. Food is most typical American food. Great presentation and service. A gem to Coronado

Clayton's diner is a nice place for a good breakfast. Be prepared to wait on the weekends because the locals eat here. They have all the traditional breakfast favorites and much more. They also have a window from the outside of the restaurant where you can order coffees and donuts. Clayton's is a short walk from the Del Coronado Hotel. Great place.
