“Peaceful Penon Blanco”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Penon Blanco Lookout. The property is even better than described and the view is stunning. Margi and Wolfgang are delightful and their hospitality sincere. Our room was clean, the gourmet breakfasts superb, and the morning bird songs heavenly. We drove daily to Yosemite, a 45 minute drive through scenic country to Big Oak Flat Entrance. We also ate our meals at the Yosemite Village Lodge. They offer an excellent variety of fresh salads, soups, breads, grilled, and entree choices. We would definitely go back to Penon Blanco Lookout. Thank you Margi and Wolfgang! PS: On our way to Penon Blanco, we drove through Escalon, CA and stopped at Hula's Burgers - excellent! Wish I could eat one now:o)

We arrived a little after 5pm. The owner/caretaker greated us with house sleepers that we should wear inside our room. Nice place to stay for B&B. It reminds me of a strict grandma. The breakfast is good and the room is clean with a very nice mountain and river view. I feel like I need to tip toe because of all the written rules and regulations of the room:( over all its a good experienced.

We stayed for three nights in the John Muir suite at this amazing b&b. Margi and Wolfgang were super hosts. They do have a house rule of no shoes, so please bring slippers or they can provide you with them. Stocking feet are fine. Their home overlooks the lake and valley. What a breathtaking view. It is very tastefully decorated and they basically meet any dietary need. I am gluten free and Margi prepared a seperate special meal for me daily. This is no ordinary breakfast! It is a four course delight with candles lit. Simply superb! Everything is fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. They send a questionairre out before you come to see what your needs are. They also provide you with a bottle a wine..red, white or Wolfgang's home made brew which I understand is fantastic. The matress was out of this world. It was a tempurpedic and we slept like a dream especially after spending the day at Yosemite. Margi has a bunch of Yosemite cd's that were spot on. Make sure you ask about them if she doesn't mention it. They take you through the park area by area. It is very informative. The only drawback is that it is quite a drive to Yosemite, but it is a beautiful one. The town of Coulterville is small and everything including the restaurants close up at 6:30 pm. Plan ahead. Coulterville has the oldest running saloon in CA. This was a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Stayed in the John Muir suite. Perfect. View of lake McClure and mountains.

My husband and I stayed here only one night and we wish we had stayed more. When we came there, we were dead tired from our road trip and what we wanted to do is just to relax and go straight to bed. That was exactly what we did. The hostess, Margi, had prepared a bottle of wine for us and we spent a lovely time sitting on the balcony and enjoying the night. The room was cosy and very clean. We had a restful night! In the morning we were served a very delicious breakfast by the hostess and her husband and had a lovely chat with her. She recommended a marvelous place to us, a ghost town Body, and we loved it! We enjoyed our stay in this hotel despite its distant location. However, I have to admit that Margi's husband was not very friendly and the atmosphere was a bit weird at first, but we got used to it. All in all, I would recommend this hotel, it was perfect for us, honeymooners!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in the John Muir Jr. Suite last weekend. The room was beautifully decorated. We started each morning with a beautiful sunrise sipping coffee on the private patio. The breakfasts were glorious! Margi and Wolfgang were gracious hosts and made our stay absolutely delightful. This was our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast. Do yourself a favor and stay here.

Room Tip: The John Muir Jr. Suite has a private entrance.

Such a wonderful spot to stay...my lady and I were nearing the end of our 2013 road trip and wanted to spend some time in Yosemite. Everything in the park was full and we found Penon Blanco on-line and called. Very glad we did. Our hosts, Margi and Wolfgang, were extremely accommodating, providing excellent service without being intrusive. We noted the other comments re shoes etc, but this is their home and if they don't want your dirty shoes/hiking boots inside that is their prerogative! We arrived fairly late our first night but Margi was still there to greet us and make us feel welcome. The dogs were also roaming around - which was fine by us as we love dogs! And they are friendly also. Margi accommodated our timing for breakfast the next morning. And what a wonderful breakfast - as it was each morning. True attention to detail in the preparation and the service. A real highlight of our trip.

The welcome bottle of wine was also appreciated - although I was a little surprised to not get a Californian wine, I must say. Sitting on the deck, looking at the Milky Way, with a glass of wine...perfect end to long days of traveling or hiking.

We stayed in the John Muir suite and is is everything the website says it is. Comfortable, private and spacious.

The only possible drawback is the distance to Yosemite but then we knew that in advance and it gave us the chance to see some wonderful scenery, and wildlife, on our way in and out of the park each day.

We stayed three days and had to leave early the last morning to start the long trek home. Unprompted Margi offered to pack us a breakfast for the road - sorry we had to miss the eggs benedict though as all the food we had was fresh, well prepared and very tasty! One regret that I didn't ask for the (very) local beer... ah well, maybe next time.

My wife and I had a lovely time visiting Yosemite Park, and while we did, we stayed at the Penon Blanco Lookout B&B. Our hosts were lovely people, excellent cooks (and brewer, so try their home-brewed beer!) The room was beautifully appointed and the bed was super-comfortable. Breakfast was great, and enough to keep us going well past lunch.

Do rent the extra travel CDs if you're visiting the park: the drive into the park is about 45 minutes, and then there is another 45 minutes of driving to get to Yosemite Valley one you're in the park. The CDs are timed travelogues that talk about the history, flora and geology of the area as you drive through it. It was fascinating!
