“Lovely”
Reviewed 1 June 2013

We had a lovely time at Cloud Farm for two nights in May (2013). The owner was really welcoming and he clearly just wanted us to have a nice time and enjoy ourselves. Which we did! We had a fire both nights by the tents. Not only is this encouraged here, they sell magic fire powder to turn the flames different colours just for fun.

The spot is idyllic, a beautiful drive down into the valley with babbling brook next to our camping field and sheep wandering nearby.

We enjoyed our fry up breakfasts both mornings, cooked by the owner. He lent us pans and a grater in the evening when we were cooking. All in all it was a great experience.

Nearby town Linton was well worth a visit with a sunny pub garden for lunch, a large park with zip wire and swings. A lovely weekend. Hurray!

We spent 3 nights in our camper van here in May 13. It's an amazing spot with a babbling brook right alongside and a little bridge over into Exmoor. Some amazing walks right on your doorstep too. We had pretty much the whole camp site to ourselves which helped. They allow camp fires which is great (although you have to buy wood - you aren't allowed to help yourself from Exmoor - which works out quite expensive). The ablutions are satisfactory, if a little tired. Although we don't like going to the posh sites so this suited us perfectly. The owner is great - friendly and very flexible. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Don't grab the first pitch you see - the camp site extends a long way up the valley and is more...

Cloud Farm is a great camp site. It’s about 3 miles off the main coastal road and hidden away in a lovely valley. It’s a superb location for going off on walks on Exmoor especially if you’re a Lorna Doone fan. We did a wonderful 9 mile walk from “50 walks in Somerset” published by the AA which goes straight through the camp site. It is also reasonable close to both Lynmouth/Lynton and Porlock.

The site itself runs along side a river called Badgworthy Water which is the border of Devon and Somerset. The site has six or so different fields in the valley and up on terraces. They are separated by natural foliage and trees. It is a truly charming location.

Because it’s out in the sticks you’ll need to bring all your supplies as you can’t easily pop down to the shops. However, the site does have all the provisions you need at a modest mark up.

The owners are extremely helpful and friendly. They are also very laidback. There are no rules and regulations stuck up everywhere like some sites. They don’t mark out the pitches either. You simply turn up and stick your tent wherever you want.

We found the loos and showers perfectly adequate. They probably could do with being modernised but they were functional and anyway what do you expect when you only pay 8 quid a night. They seems to be cleaned regularly as well which is probably a never ending job after the kids have been playing in the river and then running around on the grass before using the facilities.

If you love the outdoors and nature and sitting around your own camp fire in beautiful English countryside then you won’t get much better than Cloud Farm.

We stayed 4 nights at Cloud Farm campsite and loved every minute! The weather was gorgeous and was very sunny! The campsite was clean with showers and a toilet block. The owner was very friendly and was around a lot to assist with any questions about the campsite or the area. We loved being able to make our own campfires at night- this added a special touch to the week that previous campsites we have visited did not allow. The campsite is very secluded and it was essential that we had food/ drinks with us as there was nothing else close by (there was a small shop on site that stocked a few bits and a little tea room about 1 mile away). We enjoyed a lovely walk along the river to the Medieval ruins, and also enjoyed days driving around the countryside to Lynton and Lynmouth. The area is very hilly and we had to experience Porlock Hill a few times- which was quite a scary drive, but well worth it for the secluded area of the campsite. I would recommend this campsite to friends!

Visited Cloud Farm on Sunday night based on the review in the Cool Camping book. It is an idyllic location, right on the side of the river, however the whole place really has an air of neglect about it! The pictures on the website don't really portray the true picture. The toilet and shower facilities were just about adequate but far from clean, likewise in the dish washing area. The staff we met were very friendly and you feel they're doing their best, but you get the feeling that Cloud Farm is dining out on a reputation it no longer deserves!

The location great and to be allowed log fires is a really fun thing to do. Sadly The site facilities were barely adequate, the queue for showers was ten deep. Saw a tractor emptying what we assume was a septic tank three times on a one night stay, and this all occurs very close to the tenting area. If you go and it rains, be prepared for mud everywhere. We can see the back to basics attraction, but if crowded it all comes over as a bit of a mess.

In addition to the priceless location, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.
