This restaurant was just a block from our hotel so we walked down the street to check it after the night we got to San Fran. We were looking for somewhere were we could watch football and the desk staff at the hotel said they had tv's in the bar here. When we arrived at Val's (about 9pm on a Thurs) we asked for seats in the bar area but immediately discovered that was not a good idea. They had karaoke in the bar area and there appeared to only be a handful of people singing and they were all picking the slowest saddest songs to sing.
So we asked for a table in the dining room and we were quickly accomodated. Unfortunately, the karaoke was so loud it still took over the atmosphere in the dining room. The servers were wonderful and took great care of us. Their menu advertised homemade pastas so we all decided on pasta dishes. And they were all incredible!! The highlight was the penne with homemade sausage. Amazing! The portions were good sized and the prices were very reasonable. We can see why this place has been around for so long.
