“Too Big?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

When we checked in we waited over 20 minutes just to reach the check in counter. That made us feel like we were entering another Las Vegas convention center hotel, but of course we were not.
What we entered was wedding paradise! This must be a wonderful place for weddings, as the line held many people talking about weddings that weekend.

The rooms are large with fine quality bathrooms, all kept very clean and the extra service of the nightly "turn down" service, does the little extra's of a fine property. The staff is very attentive and polite. We found to food in one of the restaurants to be very good along with very pleasant service.

The extra charges detract from the quality image. $39 for valet parking each day plus a $25. "Resort Fee" each day is simply too much, for a high end hotel to be adding to each bill.

Stayed here for 3 nights with 2 kids and husband. The moment you check into hotel you can feel the serviceable staff. From valet parking to front desk and concierge everybody pays attention to your family name and want to treat you in a special way. We had a pool view 2 queen beds. The view was amazing and the bathroom was big and gorgeous. They have 2 pools, one for adults and one for families. Beautiful property. A tram which brings you through the golf to the beach where there are free chairs and towels with surf boards and balls and toys for the guests to use. At the beach there is the private members only Monarch beach club for residences but because you are a guest at the St. Regis guests can have a drink or eat there. The last tram leaves this beach club at 930pm and the last tram to bring you to the beach house is 730pm from hotel. It's really worth a visit, right on beach and very fun. The service is amazing and the food is great too. Go for happy hour they have great prices. We did dine once at the Motif restaurant and found it was overpriced with small portions and the food wasn't so great for dinner. The lunch at the Motif was much better for quick sandwiches, hamburgers and chicken fingers for kids were very good. There is a fine dining restaurant in hotel but closed on Monday and Tuesday. There is a coffee place to enjoy a quick bite to eat in morning with reasonable prices considering the quality of hotel this was. Overall experience was memorable.

We enjoyed our stay at the St. Regis. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel we were important guests. We only stayed for one night but enjoyed time down at the private beach and in the pool. The pool was terrific --- both beautiful and warm. The private beach is a short shuttle ride away. The shuttle only holds about 10 people, so on a crowded weekend it might take a while to get a ride, but we had no problem at all. We loved the attention the staff paid to every detail in making sure our needs (and more!) were met. We were pleasantly surprised when one staff member noticed us taking pictures and offered to take a picture of the both of us. This is not our typical choice in hotel and was definitely a splurge, but it was fun while it lasted!

The minute you walk in and you are "wowed" with the views and the space. The rooms are really kept well. Mine had no view, on the pool 1st floor. It was still charming. Usually I get a view of the ocean. Quiet, comfortable, romantic, special, clean . . . everything to love. The spa is great - not as clean as it should be in the wet areas, though. Great staff. Downsides? Food and beverage are so overpriced you feel insulted ($4.50 for a can of coke, for example). That's it - the beach, the running paths, the workout area, the overall ambiance . . . it's all wonderful and special.

The St. Regis, Monarch Beach is a beautiful hotel, with spa, golf, pool and beach amenities. The service is top-notch and the rooms are beautiful. We especially enjoyed the workout facilities, which were well-equipped and within their spa so there was access to full lockers, etc. Their on-site dining and bars are in general beautiful and several have fantastic views. Our favorite, however, was their beach-side restaurant, which was down near the Pacific water's edge. (You need to take a shuttle bus there.) It is right on the beach -- for nice pre and post dinner walks -- and the food was excellent. I would definitely stay here again!

I have nothing but favorable impressions, wonderful memories and an outstanding recommendation for the St. Regis Monarch Beach. The staff is ultra-attentive as you would expect and check-in, check-out, help with activities and any possible request are handled flawlessly. I have stayed there 3 times over the last 6 years and the experience is always the same --- memorable and outstanding. I have also hosted a corporate meeting there and can say the same experience extends to even planning.

The grounds of the resort are superb. Plenty of walking trails, a nice botanical garden, adult and open pools, and spectacular balcony views of the ocean. I recommend paying more for an ocean view, but I have stayed in rooms without one and it was not a big deal because you will spend lots of time wandering the grounds. The best thing about the resort is the access to the Monarch Bay Beach Resort. A tram takes you down at all hours of the day it seems. Monarch Beach is great and the Monarch Bay Beach Club will make sure you get your chairs umbrellas, body boards, surf lessons and anything else you want. The ocean is great for body boarding and surfing here. Life guards are on duty and attentive. And the beach is generally not that crowded. If you wander the far end you will find nice tidal pools. Best surfing is to your left, just where Salt Creek enters the Pacific or further down in front of the farthest life guard station.

Dining at the resort is a real highlight. Michael Mina's Stonehill Tavern is one of my top 5 and the tasting menu is always phenonmenal. Crust is handy for tea and breakfast. The lounge offers high tea and phenomenal sunsets. The Monarch Bay Beach Club offers beach side dining and a nice menu in or out.

The spa is also world class. Great facilities, work-out equipment and superb staff.

This is really an outstanding option for those who can afford the best.

Room Tip: gotta get an ocean view

Been coming to St Regis Monarch Resort for over ten years. Just returned from a four night stay. When I checked in Tuesday, I asked Front Desk to arrange for late Sat checkout after 2pm as my family was joining me and I hold 5 star Platinum elite status. No problem he said. I asked to apply Starwood suite upgrade awards. Was told St Regis would only upgrade room for cash. A/C in room functioned intermittently. Informed housekeeping. It was never dealt with. Safe in closet did not work. Informed operator. It was never dealt with. Picture hanging on wall by bath had broken frame. When I hosted a 2pm Friday lunch in Motif for three foreign officials, waitstaff was barely attentive. When my son and his wife arrived Friday for the night (in their scruffy car) valet staff would not wait on them (preferring to deal with the well healed elite in their shiny Bentley's, Mercedes, etc. Shame on management for such a lack of professionalism. Next time in area, I'll be at the neighboring Ritz where service remains on a better lever. - John Venardos
