“Hands down the best Hotel/Resort in Southern California!!”
Reviewed 1 October 2009

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the St. Regis Monarch Beach. I've stayed at all the top hotels in So Cal (Bacara,Ritz,Montage etc..)
The St.Regis Resort was by far one of the best hotel/resort experiences ever.

The staff and accommodations exceeded our expectations. The rooms are fantastic, ocean view, huge jacuzzi tub and incredible linen..What more could one ask for?

We look forward to visiting again in the near future.
Definetly two thumbs up!!

P.,S Dining at Stonehill Tavern (located in the hotel) was awesome!! 5 Star! Micheal Mina at his best.

I'm rarely impressed by a hotel, but St. Regis was top notch. My room was very nice, with a huge bathroom and sunken tub that I never had the chance to enjoy. I was there on business, and I thought the conference rate--$250 a night--was very good for this caliber of resort. Breathtaking views and gorgeous pool. I ate the conference food from their catering dept, which was good, but would have liked to have tried Michael Mina's restaurant. My impression, though, was that the hotel offerings were very pricey, since the regular latte I bought from the coffee shop was $5. Also, there's a really nice little bar, with an attached-open air terrace with an incredible view. Service was very good. If you're planning on using a shuttle to get to LAX, however, make sure you order ahead. I didn't, and the on-the-spot sedan cost was $200. Ouch.

This is a very nice place. Great room, great gym and spa, very friendly and effcient staff. The beach is quite nice with a nice beach restaurant, however the beach is not as close to the hotel as expected. It takes a 20 min walk or approx 5-10 min with the hotel transportation.
The food is quite expensive in the hotel (but this is a St Regis) but quite good. However, there are plenty of great restaurants in the area.
In a few words: I recommend this place if you are looking for a nice, classy but expensive resort. Only warning: downtown LA is really far away.

This could be a great place, however, it lacks in too many areas to qualify as a 5 star property.

The property is adjacent to a city park, Sea Terrace Park, which has many nice paved trails. It is easy to walk to the ocean instead of taking the shuttle.

The room was okay size, although smaller than expected. The bed was surprisingly uncomfortable with rough worn sheets and a tattered duvet. The bathroom was very nice but the toilet was very loose at the base and wobbly, and the handle was loose. Most of the amenities you would expect are included except there was no bath salts provided to use in the very nice large tub. This is a standard item in a 5*. Lotion and wine glasses were not replaced.

The room a/c did not work that great, had a very dirty filter, and there was matted dust on the ceiling. A/C throughout the hotel was sporadic. Some areas seemed quite humid and musty smelling.

The maintenance and attention to detail must be improved for this hotel to rate better. Carpet in some hallways is very worn and torn.

The coffee shop (Crust) is supposed to open at 6 however it did not open until about 8 minutes later. There were about a dozen people waiting for the doors to open (no coffee pots in rooms). Apparently this is a recurring problem. Additionally, sandwiches and salads are advertised starting at 11, however at 11:45 they still were not ready.

Had dinner at Motif, food is okay, not great, but overpriced for just okay food. Some was bland, some came out cold, the wine was not poured for you, all things expected in a 5*.

Valet parking at $30/day is completely out of line.

we went for a long weekend, and because i was a gold member, we were upgraded to an ocean-view suite. the room had a full terrace for both the living area and bedroom, and the view of the ocean was gorgeous. we also had two bathrooms, which was a total luxury. we spent a day by the pool and received excellent service. we exercised in the morning and the gym/spa facilities were outstanding, we did not receive any spa services. the common rooms were lovely as well, and we had a drink by the fire in the evenings after dinner, which was quite romantic. the only downside is that we were there on the weekend, and both nights they had large parties which was a little tough in terms of the noise. also, several services were not included in the room charge, the resort fee and valet parking. i explained to the front desk that i had specifically asked starwood about whether parking was included, and they assured me it was. the clerk told me they were no longer owned by starwood, so they couldn't make this claim. they did take it off my bill, however, when i complained. net-net, a very positive experience, with the exception of the hidden charges and noise in the evening.

Starwood platnum member was refused an upgrade to a suite because of high occupancy rate, yet we met good member that had been easily upgraded.

Was originally given a late check out of 1pm, then changed to noon, we argued for 4pm since its availible for platnum members, settled for 3pm

Ordered fish sticks n fries & chips and salsa at the pool, wasn't that busy at all, over 50 min wait, had to remind them of our order

Cashier @ "crusts" was rude with comments of "how would you like that" when ordering a bowl of cereal

Only parking was $30 per day,
sunday brunch was $80 per person
