“Consistently serving the best Mexican food in Southern California”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

My husband and I have gone to Olamendi's for over 20 years. We used to live in Laguna Beach and moved to Costa Rica 18 years ago. However, we come back to California every year to see family and make our annual stop at this restaurant. Funky cool decor. I usually judge a Mexican restaurant initially by the flavor/quality of their salsa. They have the best, mild and hot. Their chips are not too thick and also worth the calories. Our favorite dish is the pork burrito and fajitas!
Their margaritas are good too. The waitresses seem to remember us each year - happy staff is a good sign. This used to be a restaurant President Nixon would frequent. There are photos of him and other interesting folks!

“Popular Mexican restaurant”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

The Olamendi's style carnitas burrito. People really like it here and we made a reservation the second time just in case. It's right by the walking bridge to the beach so we took a stroll by the fire rings after dinner. What a great night! They have their own tequilla too!

“Local treasure”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Doesn't look like much on the outside but, it is sheer eclectic delight. We have been coming here for thirty years. It never changes much, including delicious Mexican food. This little restaurant was a favorite of President Nixon but, also many other celebrities. The gallery of pictures, flags, memorabilia is so much fun to look at. This place does not pretend to be anything but, a friendly, affordable place to have a wonderful dining experience. When we ate there last they had a table set for ten people so it definitely can seat large parties. Another plus is that as you go down South it is off the freeway at Beach Cities Exit. A very easy on and off the freeway and a really nice break if you're heading South.

“Authentic Mexican Restaurant”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

Our friends in San Clemente took us on our last night with them, a favourite haunt of Richard Nixon (there are pictures of him eating there all over the place, together with toys, footballs, shirts, religious artifacts etc etc. With all the tables taken on a Sunday evening, this gives the place a very good vibe, which does not seem to affect the service either. Started with a jug of margarita, and then into some really quite good Mexican beef and chicken dishes. I've eaten better Mexican in Southern California but the atmosphere is really good and it is pretty good value for money. Worth stopping by.

“Love it”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

This is a great place. It is warm and inviting, has a deck, and a bit of an ocean view. It is about 10 blocks south of Laguna's main business district, so it is just out of the crowded downtown. Parking is usually available.

It is family run by some great people. Hard not to enjoy the casual atmosphere of this place. Food and service are both great. Highly recommended.
