Formerly the Fish Bucket, The Wine Bistro is the latest restaurant to be opened by Paul Hennessey. It is located next door to Hennessey's Tavern in Dana Point and the decor is very nice and includes a large patio for outdoor dining. As a wine bar it's great but the cuisine is a refreshing twist on traditional dishes. We have been there several times and the food was excellent every time. The Sugar & Spiced Mahi Mahi was the best I have every eaten and the PB&J Scallops are the favorite of many patrons. A wonderful surprise on the menu is the Chicken N' Waffles made with great southern fried chicken, chipotle butter, bleu cheese waffles and peach maple syrup. It may sound odd but it is delicious. The best deal is on Monday nights when you get 3 small plates of food and 3 wines for $20. Chef Nael Taki gets very creative on Monday nights and you will always be surprised by the flavors and variety of foods served. They frequently have wine dinners that highlight wineries from all over the world. Next time you're in Dana Point give them a try, you'll not be disappointed.
