“Wonderful bed/not so wonderful bathroom”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014

The best part of staying at the best western was the bed. It was a great pillow-top bed that was extremely comfy. Unfortunately, the bathroom area (without the tub) was probably smaller than the closet and left barely room to turn around.

Our son had hip surgery in December. He has a college student and lives in a small apartment. We live in Seattle and flew down to be with him during the surgery and help him recover during the first week of his recovery. This hotel was on the ocean and they made our stay with our son a wonderful, caring experience. Put us in the most convenient room for easy access. Brought extra ice, made additional coffee, checked in on us frequently. They were incredibly attentive -- not in an overbearing way but one of general concern and a willingness to help. The hotel was spotless and our room had an incredible view. They recommended several places for us to have dinner within walking distance. Even though we were there for a serious reason, our stay at this hotel felt almost like a vacation! We will definitely stay there again...soon!

Not often do you find a hotel that offers value and location with a staff that's all about making your stay enjoyable. This is such an experience. Sure, it's not brand new, but it's been well done and continues to be updated. The Owner/manager is all about customer service. We stayed in a balcony room with a view of the beach. The occasional train and traffic noise was no big deal considering how comfortable we were. 5 star, no. Value and comfort, yes.

The Best Western property at Dana Point is very interesting. Its location is fantastic. Along this stretch of the beach front, the railroads got first dibs, then the roads, then the buildings. The noise is inescapable, but luckily the layout of this compound cleverly tuck the rooms around 2 adjoining courtyards. It is quaint and gives a great sense of a “secret nook” for relaxation and rest. The rooms have been remodeled and for the price we received (it is low season after all), it represents an excellent value. Parking is free, and the rooms are much larger than expected. There are quirks and things beyond our control, but all in all this property is the best mom-and-pop motel I have encountered in a long time.

Booked multiple nights here, thinking nice ocean view for a reasonable rate....Eh - not so much. Clean...well maintained garden...ok breakfast. We were prepared for the commuter train and highway separating the hotel from the beach. But missed the fact that you have to walk along the busy highway just under .5 mile to reach a pedestrian walkway-overpass that takes you to a beach area. So, though you can see the water, you can't easily get there - nor can you hear the waves, due to the roar of constant traffic flow. Our "upgraded" room was large, but fronted on the street level hot tub, which kept lights blazing all night. We kept the drapes pulled and deck door shut, to keep out the glare and the noise. Not a lot of choices in Dana Point - just the way things are situated. Should've stayed in Laguna Beach, minutes away and much better orientation to the ocean...or the cute Beachcomber Motel (awesome mom and pop) in San Clemente. If you're looking for a lovely spot on the coast, this isn't it.

My family of four stayed one night at Inn-by-the-Sea. This hotel is not particularly luxurious, but it is clean and comfortable with a pleasant central garden and a few public seating areas with ocean views. The room was spacious, remodeled and very clean. The front desk clerk was friendly and attentive. I like that this was one of the few hotels in Dana Point with free parking. The breakfast is your standard hotel self-serve bland, but well stocked and clean. I recommend guests grab a bowl of cereal to tide hunger over and then head up the PCH to Stacks pancake house!
The main drawback of this hotel is that the ocean view is past a busy street and train tracks, and the hot tub area is right along the noisy road. However, traffic settled down in the evening. It is an easy walk to the pedestrian overpass to Doheny Beach. I recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a basic, well kept property that is walking distance to the beach.

Room Tip: If you want to avoid noise form the Pacific Coast Hwy, ask for the "garden view" rooms awa...

I enjoyed my stay in Dana Point. The property was clean and well maintained. I can say enough regarding the Great hospitality!! It is very unfortunate that the review requires 200 characters because that may limited the number of individuals taking the time out to complete one.
