At last we visited much acclaimed Tunneberga gästis, less than half an hour north of our hometown Helsingborg, a few kilometres east of Höganäs. A lot of people have told us that they go here for classic herring meals, for goose, and for another speciality called "äggakaka" (which is a regional speciality, sort of a mixture between a thick oven baked pancake and an omelette) served with fried slices of pork and lingonberries. We say their lunch ad in the regional paper Monday, and decided to book a table. Fully booked!!! For lunch!! In a suburb to a suburb. Promising indeed. We must have sounded very disappointed because the owner softened and offered us a table as late as possible, 14.15. We jumped at the idea!! Arrived early, but it was really FULL. No problem, sat and waited outside in the sunshine. Some minutes before time our table was ready. Service was very friendly, and the lady admitted that when they serve this speciality, like today, they felt they were one man short because of the very high demand. Some tables had three sittings!! For lunch!! A weekday! In the countryside! And yes, it was worth the trip and the wait. The dish is filling, but we managed some espresso and chocolate truffles afterwards. Would definitely go there again for lunch, or during the weekend for some regional speciality, like goose. Some celebrated their birthday, and it seems to be a good place for that as well. Lunch is only 95 SEK (espresso and truffle extra, ordinary coffee and a plentiful buffet of salads and greens, like delicious marinated mushrooms, included in the lunch price).
