The restaurant is located in front of a the Torrey Pines reserve in Del Mar, which has a very nice view on the reserve. The place has two big rooms, one inside and one outside. We made a reservation but unfortunatly couldn't go outside.
The atmosphere was nice and calm, and we had good service. We had salads, buttermilk fried chicken which had salad romaine, tomatoes, bacon and avocado with gorgonzola dressing. It was very good. Nice place to go to!

My wife and I and her daughter had dinner at Iris recently and were pleasantly surprised. None of us were very hungry, but we wanted to try a variety of food. We ended up getting an order of mussels, an order of the duck pot stickers, and an order of the cioppino to share amongst the three of us. Two of the dishes were home runs, the other was a single. The mussels were excellent. Served with crispy, grilled bread to soak up the tasty sauce, this dish was very tasty and satisfying. The duck pot stickers were much anticipated, but we were disappointed with the little amount of duck that was in the filling. It just wasn't that flavorful. The cioppino special was the star of the night. Served over tender chunks of russet potatoes (a first for me), the salmon, sea bass, mussels, clams, scallops, and prawns were in a delicious sauce. A truly great dish. On top of everything else we ordered the carrot cake to go and it was great. Nice, attentive service and a great atmosphere overlooking the lagoon made for a great evening with company.

Iris always pleases us with their great food! I always try their specials and was quite satisfied with the sea bass. It is the perfect time of year to eat out on the covered patio and the view of the lagoon is always interesting. The wait staff is attentive and service was good. We had a nice dining experience, as usual!

Drive by it all the time but never ate there until last night.
Great service, diverse menu and huge portions. Decent wine list and good beer selection.
I got the iris salad which is easily enough for two. Then I got the short rib stew. Delicious and huge. No room for dessert but that was ok. Will come back anytime. Must try.
Seabass dish also tasty and huge!!

Ravenous after spending the morning hiking at Torrey Pines State Reserve, my husband and I hopped into the car, and found Iris Food and Spirits by searching for nearby restaurants on our GPS--what luck! This is a delightful spot, with lovely posters of irises (my favourite flower, and a reason for choosing this restaurant!), a pleasant, calming ambience, and a sweet, friendly waitress. For lunch, we enjoyed salads and wraps made of fresh, fresh ingredients, sitting at our table by a window with a view. For me, the highlight of the meal was the freshly-baked, steaming, exquisitely tender, fragrant, herbed bread (biscuit?) served as soon as our waitress had taken our order. We were so very hungry, we forgot our manners and devoured this treat in moments. If we have the great good fortune to travel to the area another time, we will surely return to Iris Food and Spirits!
