The place is quaint, quirky, and oh-so-charming. It was grand to lie in bed and marvel at all the design features in our Georgia O'Keefe room. Can't wait to try every other artist-themed room. And how special to have a morning fire to take the chill off the lovely garden/patio entrance. If you're an artist or photographer, bring your camera because there are shots everywhere you turn. The hosts are delightful and the Peruvian food at the nearby Secret Cafe was outstanding. Great location very near the beach and downtown.

My fiancee and I stayed here for a little weekend getaway. We stayed in the Furo room which was traditional Japanese inspired style. It was clean and had a Japanese soaking tub (basically a hot tub) in the room. It also had a balconly with a view of the ocean. The room was very unique in a very nice part of town. All this for $150 after taxes per night. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this to anyone who is looking to get away for a quiet weekend.

Room Tip: Go to the website and view the different room options.

Les Artistes is where we always stay when we go to the San Diego area. It has so much more character than a basic hotel for about the same price. Every room is unique and inspired by a different artist. The hotel is full of quirky little nooks and crannies and unique touches. It's just off the Hwy and walking distance to the beach, close to lots of great restaurants and the rooms are clean, have everything you need and are comfortable. Nothing super fancy in terms of amenities but we love the little private spots to drink a bottle of wine and watch the sunset or curl up by the fireplace. If you want a 5 star resort this is not it but if you want a comfortable and interesting spot in a great location, with lots of spots to relax and escape the world, come and enjoy. We have stayed in different room every time. Some have jacuzzi tubs, some don't, some have sitting areas and others don't...it's always different. The same people have another place down the street called the Secret Garden and a Peruvian Restaurant there too, both are also excellent.

Room Tip: There are rooms on two floors, just ask to see what's available. It is the ambiance of the whol...

Les Artistes is not for everyone. For those who like atmospheric accommodations it's a gem. It's clean, but decidedly dated and quite quirky. Everything seemed old, but things worked that needed to, and it's really charming. I stayed in Room 8, "Zen," for 2 chilly January nights. The heater eventually got the room toasty, but it's old and a little hard to operate. Hopefully not too many people visiting Del Mar will need that! The holes in the comforter initially put me off, but somehow they fit with the "antiqued" decor. It feels like staying in a mellow old friend's guest room. The bed is comfortable, but seemed soft. The shower is especially nice, but the mirror over the sink is low. There is a nice big one next to it though. Note that liquid soap and shampoo are provided in dispensers, but not the usual hotel assortment of individual sized toiletries. I actually like that since the little disposable ones seem wasteful. There's a nice little deck with French doors, a skylight, and lots of nice (old) decorating touches that makes it feel really homey. There is a sink and small fridge in the room, but no microwave or way to heat water, or any coffee or tea supplies or way to make it. There was coffee out on the front desk in the mornings and nice big mugs, along with some fruit, but not until 7:00; if there's no way to make it in the rooms then coffee should be out earlier. If you need caffeine early, you should stay somewhere else or be ready to go several blocks to get it. The wifi worked pretty well. The service was friendly and accommodating. I was able to check in 20 minutes early, which was very helpful. There was a nice fire in the fireplace in the open-air lobby at 7:00 am. It's a really neat place.

I had to spend the night in Del Mar, California and unexpectedly stumbled on Les Artistes Inn. It turned out to be a haven of quiet and beauty. My room had an open French door that looked out upon a fountain and a beautiful garden. The furnishings were tasteful and imaginative, it was relaxing and low-key. It was eclectic yet comfortable. All the more of an accomplishment as it is on the main street, yet none of the noise bothered me. I recommend it highly.

Room Tip: I only saw the Monet room which I was in. The management was friendly and they showed me my room bef...

we spent several days here. after the owners made sure they had us sign for the accomodation up front, and obtained our credit details and processed the transaction, they took us to our room. and it was too late. they locked us in for the 3 days as soon as we checked in. the room was filthy and dirty. there were no tea facilities, horrible towels, no toiletries and it was just horrible. it seemed as if the owners were trying to spend minimal amounts to upkeep and update the inn. the rates they charged for the night were exhorbitant and it was much cheaper at the hilton up the road. unfortunately the hilton was full and we couldnt extend our stay there before moving to this place. all i can say is, check out your roomand other hotels in the area before you stay. dont be fooled by the website. we spent minimum time during the day. the rooms are tiny and depressing. the whole place is depressing and eerie .

Room Tip: if you are forced to stay here, do not choose the fuoro room.

We just chanced upon this place driving through Del Mar. I am not into big resorts operated by big corporations. What a nice find!! We walked up to the small check-in area and the friendly owner showed us the rooms that are available. Each is uniquely designed. We decided to stay at the Lotus room at the Secret Garden Inn, which she also owns. Rooms are small, but it's cozy and uniquely designed. I liked it. Hotel is walking distance from shops and restaurants. Breakfast was part of the price and we ordered from a menu and it was delicious. Staff was very friendly, accomodating.
