We have driven by this reatsurant a hundred time but have never stopped in. It appeared to us to be a Chinese restaurant that appealed to Western tastes - not our style, having been raised on authentic Chinese food. A mixed up dinner reservation brought us in one night when we were desperate for dinner. The interior is small and cramped with strings of light everywhere. The owner was hurried, trying to organize a consistent flow of take-out orders while answering the phone for more orders. We were sat in the middle of this circus and we braced ourselves for the worse. It never came. The sizzling rice soup was amazing! The rice was fragrant. Scallops with black beans and beef with oyster sauce - delicious! The only slight surprise is that the price was expensive for Chinese food. Perhaps this is due to the affluent neighborhood of Del Mar in which Double Happiness is nestled. If you find yourself here and craving Chinese, this place will not disappoint.
