The only caveat I would offer about this wonderful property in the heart of Del Mar is to avoid staying here if there's a wedding (which I understand is rather often). My last stay here one was to be held the night I left, and already the laid-back but upscale beachfront vibe was getting a tad frantic. And I believe the reviewers on this site who complain about the weddings - the property is rather small, and it's easy to see even a smallish wedding party swallowing up the whole place

That said, do stay here if in Del Mar when there's not a wedding! The lobby is one of the nicest I've ever seen, with expensive views out to a lovely terrace, then the pool, and beyond, down a short walk, to the glorious Pacific Ocean. Service is personal and friendly in that classes SoCal way; rooms are elegant, if smallish, and have great little outside seating areas. But the real attractions re all the public spaces - the bar, the lobby, the pool (at all hours - very nice at night with the fire pits), the restaurant, etc..And right outside is other downtown Del Mar (charming!) or the beach and ocean (awesome!)

Vey civilized, very elegant and worth a detour if in the vicinity (e.g. San Diego)

Room Tip: I prefer the first floor rooms near the pool because the outside seating areas are wonderful, but they do offer a little less privacy

Enjoyed a lovely Easter brunch at the Waterfall Terrace. Great variety of foods, including oysters, crab claws, and ceviche, plus the usual assortment of brunch items.

A little spendy at $65 per person. The one issue was that we were charged $5 per glass of orange juice, which should be included in a $65 brunch...but other than that a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Just finished a two-night stay. Pluses: location is right on main drag for restaurants, shopping; bed is comfy, room and lobby furnishings are luxurious; food thoughout hotel (restaurant, patio, room service) is outstanding; beach is a quick 5-min walk away. Downsides: pool is very small; difficult to get a view room; service is not quite at par for a luxury hotel at those prices. Rooms not ready at guaranteed check-in time of 4:00 or even close, shower hardware broken and response time to fix was disappointing. Same front desk person dealt with both issues and seemed not particularly concerned or interested in these service glitches.

Room Tip: Ask for highest available floor with ocean view; rest of rooms look out on a street or parking lot.

In addition to being a beautiful property with well-appointed rooms, the hotel staff was very hospitable -- I had a sprained ankle and the staff were very helpful with luggage assistance and even brought large bags of ice to my room to help with my ankle swelling. Thanks!

Our son attends USD so we often travel down to San Diego from SF to see him and grab some vacation time. We have stayed in many locations in the area but decided to head a little north this time to Del Mar as we had driven by and loved the look of the village.

The Auberge itself feels very small, but has quite a few floors and rooms. The rooms are beach classic in looks; clean natural colors and comfy furniture. ( a wee bit frayed around the edges, but I'm a complete stickler and my husband said no one else would have noticed) We were there for 3 nights and 4 days in total.

We stayed in the standard room, which was quite nice - we had no view, but it was nice to have a verandah to sit out and have a glass of wine on. No tub in the bathroom, which was absolutely fine, but the bathroom itself was lovely, all marble and very upscale furnishings and shower with glass surround. The staff was wonderful - it felt like we were in a much smaller hotel as everyone was very kind and yet professional and went out of their way to help us find locations, rental bikes, restaurants, and best ways to get into town. You have to hand it to the valets as well - not only do they deal with a very small porte cochere, but there was a sizable wedding going on and guests were arriving not just to stay but to attend the wedding or eat at one of the onsite restaurants, and they were not only cheerful but took the time to give directions and ask us how our day was going.
Very California laid-back vibe but totally efficient.

We ate and drank at the Waterfall Terrace on 2 occasions and it was lovely to be able to watch the sun set over the water from our perch. Food was very good - California fresh farm-to-table etc. We also had room service, which was quite good and delivered in a very short time. The ONLY very minor problem was - no HBO! Game of Thrones was premiering and I ended up watching on my iPad. What 4 star property doesn't have HBO?? I realize you are on vacation and should not be watching tv, however....it's Game of Thrones on a Sunday night! In any case...we will be back. (PS Wi-fi was great - not slow or cutting out whatsoever on my GOT streaming)

Location was wonderful - just a short walk down to the beach and a nice park overlooking the beach, walkable to the entire village, easy to get to the 5 and San Diego, or to the racetrack if that's your thing, and many varied restaurants (Chinese, Mexican, fish, steak, etc.). Nice to be near SD but not IN it. :-)

Room Tip: Next time we would definitely upgrade to a partial view - suites seemed a tad overpriced at $1500 a night. We were in a standard room with a view of the parking lot of the condos next door, but the room itself was bright and nicely appointed. Got a great rate on Jetsetter.
