Staying in a caboose is special! The location with views of the Castle Crags is beautiful. The 'rooms' are all different with shower or bath/shower and well maintained. Be prepared to climb the small steps up into the caboose. Nice pool and spa. The wifi (outside the lobby) did not work, this was a pity, but for us not a problem. Staff seems to be using the pool as well, but were very present, vocally, and kept on slamming the fence. There would be room for improvement.

Can definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a caboose with cupola, but they are all very nice.

A different kind of hotel. Great pool. Great restaurant. Located right off hwy 41. Great view behind the property. State park located 3 miles south has a view off Mt. Shasta. I would stay again. Very quaint.

We stayed in Train #11 with our 2 year old son. He absolutely loved sleeping in a train!! The room itself was bigger than I thought it would be- there is even a full bath room with a tub. Our room had a queen bed, decor is nothing fancy- standard motel decor but it was still very nice. The campus here is beautiful! There is a creek going through the park that goes under the entrance of our train. And the view of Castle Crags is amazing! My parents stayed in cabin 4 & it was very nice too- large with a nice living room. It is decorated with a soft blue paint & very cozy. The gift shop has lots of fun train toys and books for kids. We will definitely be back! Next time we'll stay in a train with a king bed because they all have these fun windows in the top with seating. I don't know what they're called, but it looks fun! This place is a must for kids and adults alike!

Who needs another Best Western or Holiday Inn, when you can stay in a real Caboose, surrounded by craggy mountains and the fresh air of northern California. You will stay in a caboose that has air conditioning, refrigerator, small TV ( who needs it..,) and a great shower! Coffee maker is provided as is wireless, although that may be weak depending on where you are. The pool and hot tub are nice additions too for the family.

Get out of the ordinary and indulge yourself in a wonderful step back to the glory days of railroad cars. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Ask for a caboose near the pool!

Whether you are passing through the Shasta National Forest or making Dunsmuir a destination, the Railroad Park Resort is a terrific mountainside Roadside Attraction. The railroad park, set in a stunning canyon next to a small stream - a tributary of the Sacramento River, is a delight for both kids and adults with kids' imaginations. Nicely nicely spaced around a great outdoor swimming pool (and jacuzzi for the colder weather), the railroad car "rooms" are clean and adequately sized, with air conditioning for the hot summer days, TV's with cable, coffee makers and refrigerators. We enjoyed playing in the stream, breathing the pine-scented mountain air, and soaking up blue sky and sunshine around the pool. In the right season you can fish from the stream or go into Dunsmuir Town Limits and fish in the Sacramento River.

This is not the Ritz but it is a fun and totally different "motel". There are 28 railroad cars, all with queen or king sized beds. Needless to say the walls are thick and there are no adjoing rooms. We found our refurbished caboose to be a great accommodation. We also had dinner at the restaurant there was very good.

How many times in your life will you get to stay in a real caboose or a boxcar? This place has several, complete with modern washrooms, TV, phone, bar fridge, and everything else you would expect to find in a "regular" hotel room. The cabooses and boxcars circle a pool, hot tub and central BBQ area. There are also dining cars and a bar car, but for some reason they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. If you're looking for something different, give this place a try.

Room Tip: Try to schedule your visit here to be other than on a Monday or Tuesday so you can enjoy the dining...
