“Decent place to stay, close to local free shuttle and shopping.”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

We stayed for 4 nights at the Hyatt House while we were in town for a wedding. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One time the young woman at the main desk offered to take our party of 7 to the nearest Bart station in the Hotel's shuttle. After that we became acquainted with the Emeryville Go Round (area free shuttle) and took advantage of this service to get to and from the Bart station. It is an easy walk from the hotel to several shopping areas and food courts.

Our bed was quite comfortable, but the rooms are a bid on the tired side as mentioned by other reviewers. Our suite still had 2 CRT TVs; one with a VHS player. I heard the staff tell another customer who echoed the same complaint that they were scheduled for updating next year.

The breakfast breakfast was nothing spectacular but it did offer an ample selection of breakfast foods which varied daily. In addition to scrambled eggs, we saw ham and sausage, blintzes, waffles and pancakes on various days. Fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, cereals were available as well.

It was a good stay for our purposes.

Well... decent hotel...but a little bit tired!
The restaurant on the main floor offers classic lunch for U.S., nothing extraordinary in fact.

Its only advantage for me is to be located not far from SF but not very well served by public transport

Comfortable, clean rooms. Courteous staff. Good breakfast. Free Sunday paper. All I could want in a hotel. Location is very close to San Francisco, easy access to freeway and you're in the city in a matter of minutes!

Stayed here for 3 days after getting off Amtrak train from Chicago and before driving to Yosemite National Park.

For these purposes ie resting after being shaken, rattled and rolled by 3 days and 2 nights of Amtrak train travel and preparing for Yosemite, we found the stay extremely recuperative, convenient and excellent value.

Firstly as the hotel was not classified in the top class bracket we decided to plump for one of the better rooms and booked a Bay View King Size Bedroom with kitchenette.

We arrived a little late as the train had been held up for 3 hours back in the hills near Sparks when a freight train broke down on part of a single line track and we had to wait for it to be cleared. So needless to say we were a little travel weary on arrival.

But what a pleasant sight when we stepped off the train and there was the hotel and a hot shower just a short walk away, up the elevator right on the platform and across the tracks. Sure enough after a pleasant talk with the receptionist who knew all about Papua New Guinea and Australian rugby we were allocated our Bay View room on the 8th floor.

The room was slightly worn but spotlessly clean and thoroughly prepared and extremely well equipped with a giant sized fridge and kitchenette and a vey big bathroom and comfortable bed and sitting room. And a great view across the bay and you could open up the sliding door onto the veranda and let that beautiful fresh air in.

After crashing, next morning we attended the breakfast area which was very well patronised by all age brackets which indicated that the hotel is very popular and had a good choice of breakfast, with my favourite hot oatmeal, with plenty of seating.

That day we picked up a car from SFO (as after Yosemite that was where we were going to return it) and were given a free hotel shuttle with another couple down to the BART station and another plus for the hotel was that when we returned with our GPS equipped Mazda 3, there is free parking all around it. So we were able to park the car right under our nose.

There are plenty of grades of eating choices around the area as well as the hotel dining room. Just nearby is a very popular food market where we picked up some takeaway on the first night and if you want a splurge there is a good choice. We selected the Townhouse Bar and Grill:

http://www.townhousebarandgrill.com/

which is about a 10 minute walk away and we thought it was a great ambience inside and excellent value – a bit like the Hyatt, don’t be put off by the outside appearances. It was well patronised by locals so you may have to book at the weekend and we were pleasantly surprised by the bill. Recommended.

So overall I would highly commend Hyatt House. It has a practical, unpretencoius feel about it and is obviously a choice by many who prefer the better value option of staying this side of the bay to downtown and more expensive San Francisco. For straight off Amtrak and onto Yosemite it was perfect for us and I would have no hesitation staying there again and would even consider this as an option, certainly if you have a car, if you are holidaying in the San Francisco area.

A definite 5 stars from me if you are looking for great value. Well done Hyatt House. Keep up the good service.

Room Tip: A High Bay View away from the train noise a must.

This all-suites hotel is like a more upmarket Embassy Suite/Extended Stay than it is a Hyatt. That said, the rooms are spacious, the kitchen reasonably well equipped, and there's a TV in both the rooms. As others have noted, the carpets are badly worn and stained, both in the hallways and in the room. The furniture is IKEA standard, plenty of stools & chairs and the wifi is free. There was plenty of hot water and good pressure. The walls aren't the thickest, so noise from the Amtrak outside and the other guests in the hallway will travel into the room.

The hotel is well-located, just off the Bay Bridge, and has free parking. Amtrack stops right behind the hotel, and the bus to Berkeley and to SFO is only a block or two away. The mall nearby offers good shopping options (Gap, Pier 1, Banana Republic, Men's Warehouse, etc.) and the Trader Joes is walking distance for groceries and ready-to-eat meals. There is no shuttle to either the Oakland or the San Francisco airport, and the 'limo' is incredibly overpriced (don't believe what the front desk tells you).

The breakfast buffet is terrific, with hot choices, oatmeal, fresh fruit, nice seating areas, and top-notch coffee. it was a bit disconcerting, though, to share the outside cafe seating with an employee who was smoking a clove cigarette, particularly since this was supposed to be a smoke-free hotel.

We stayed one-night over the Labor Day weekend while attending two A's games. The Hyatt House has spacious rooms that feature a kitchenette, a room with a King and a living area with sleeper-sofa. There were a few oddities including outdated TV's and no soda and ice machines on each floor, and if you are looking for a hair dryer, I'll save you time and tell you we found it after a 20-minute search hanging in a velvet bag in the clothes closet?! That aside, the hotel was clean and was convenient as the Bay Bridge was closed and a BART station was only minutes away so we could easily get into the city for dinner. Also, the breakfast buffet was very nicely presented and very good. If I had to choose between the Sheraton Four Points, the Hilton, or here, I would most likely come back to the Hyatt House.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room facing the Bay. You'll enjoy the great view of the city at night.

The upside: We had a king suite on the 11th floor with a great view of the bay. The rooms are clean and spacious, the shower has plenty of hot water and good pressure, and the windows actually open. The suite kitchen was fully equipped. Wi-fi was perfectly adequate and elevators were quick. We liked the fact that good shopping was very close by. The downside: One of the window valances was not fastened correctly to the wall. The TV did not have pay movies. Breakfast was free, plentiful, and edible, but not as good as what you'd get at, say, Denny's.
