The classic thing to do in Encinitas on a Friday night if you are not hitting up the bars is to go see the Rocky Horror Picture Show ... you can still go out to the nearby bars afterwards if that is your thing too!

The styling inside is one of a kind ... and I remember seeing Titanic here ... super-cool if you want to do something off the beaten path in Encinitas.

Built in 1926 and opened in 1928, La Paloma bills itself as the oldest theater in California. I am sure it has seen better days and would likely have been a grand palace in her early years. She has fallen on hard times, as I am sure all cinema houses have. She is tired and neglected and seems to be absorbing the character of " The Rocky Horror Picture Show" that plays every Friday at midnight. Ehat was once regal has been transformed into tacky. The screen was adequate and sound system okay but we couldn't help wondering what it would have been like when she opened her doors.
