My friend and I traveled to Escondido to run a half-marathon sponsored by Safari Park. The day before the race we were "hanging out" looking for something to do close to our hotel. I had read about Queen Califa's Magical Circle and was curious about what it was about; so we headed for Kit Carson Park. We both loved it. It's beautiful and awe inspiring. We are both amateur photographers and we went picture taking crazy. We ended up spending a couple of hours exploring how each creature was created, talking to people, and watching the expressions of joy and amusement on adults and children alike. Oh, by the way, we are both in our late 50's. This place will bring an smile to your face at any age.

So I am only giving this place an average, for there is a large fence around it. We knew this might happened, but still wanted to give it a go. Once the fence is down. it looks like it would be a an amazing place to visit.

Queen Califa's beautiful sculpture garden created by world renowned artist Niki de Saint Phalle
is truly a hidden treasure. Located in Escondido's Kit Carson park, and currently under repair is totally worth the short walk to bask in it's exciting creatures created of stones, mirrors and lovely tiles. Don't forget your camera to capture the images of snakes, birds and other amazing beings, A great place to take guests .

Nikki St. Phalle was an extraordinary artist with a flair for colorful, mystical creatures. Her Magical Circle is hidden away in Kit Carson park, and is a visual feast. I've seen her work outside the Pompidou in Paris, France, and this is better.

As a lover of mosaics, this is a very fun find. Located in a quiet park, this is a nice short walk to get to from the parking area. The mosaic area is in a circle with a cement base. With not too many attractions in this area, this is free and a nice way to unwind. We will take another look next time we're in town.
