i arrived to Escondido, and i picked this hotel because of the price and location.

the internet was what i would say the worst part, it's was very slow and dropped a few times (also a 2.99 a day charge was tacked on)

the room was clean, everything worked bathroom shower worked well. bed was comfortable.

the laundry was a fair price to wash and dry.

Worst experience at a Motel 6 ever! The reservations were messed up, the rooms were dirty and smelled bad, and all the amenities were old and barely working. A family that we were traveling with had their reservations messed up and the manager refused to help them get the issues fixed. The manager claimed there were no other rooms to switch too but a front desk employee said that there were other rooms available. The manager also claimed he called other Motel 6 in the area but they were all sold out as well. I called the 1-800 Motel 6 number and they had 2 rooms for us at a different location within in minutes. Would not recommend anyone stay here! I would pay a little extra anyday to find a different motel to stay at.

I travel a lot in Asia and I have s saying when traveling, "This place looks almost like a motel 6," but hard to find. Traveling In Calcutta, India I found "Super Guest House" which is almost that Motel 6 standard. Many hotels either not up to the Motel 6 standard or are $100 a night too costly. I have just come to notice over the years, this Motel 6 in Escondidod like all Motel 6's is always having carpets shampooed, or buying new mattresses or phones, always maintaining the building so that it is up to that Motel 6 standard. I grew up on family trips with my dad taking us to motel 6's because he had that minimum standard of cleanliness for his family. The Escondido Motel 6 is like all Motel 6's, clean, comfortable and nice office staff. Wish they had a motel 6 closer to Poway. Rod Stansbery

Room Tip: At Motel 6's always chose a room near the office whre is is the quietest. The way Motel 6's...

We've stayed at a lot of Motel 6 motels in the past but this one rated as one of the worst that we have stayed at. The area that it was located in didn't feel safe and I was nervous about leaving anything in the car. The room smelled like mildew and the carpet felt wet and was very stained. I didn't ask the price and was disapointed to find out it cost over $70. Would not recommend staying here.

my only complaint about this motel was the check-in person, who looked like a high school girl. she apparently had little training because she had no social skills, said nothing during the check-in process, was not friendly or courteous or helpful.
otherwise the motel was standard for a motel 6. room was clean and parking was not a problem. i used the fan as white noise to drown out the traffic noise. the place was quiet the night i stayed with noone lingering outside.

I've stayed at the Motel 6 in Escondido around a dozen times over the past 3 years and its been okay every time. I've always went for the cheap single room thats around $50 after tax. Because its so cheap you can guarantee there will 2 cigarette burns around the bathtub and another 3 around the sink. The Bathrooms and doors all over this hotel could do with replacing to make it a far nicer place to be staying in. Its pretty clean otherwise and the maids do a thorough job. Its actually very quiet at night time considering theres busy roads right around the hotel. Theres a security guy at nightime who wanders around and i feel perfectly happy leaving my car in the car park.

The bad points are that you need to pay $2.99 for WiFi and other than the 4 or 5 restaraunts that are less than 2 mins walk away, there really isnt a lot to do unless you drive or get a taxi down to the local bars or shopping areas.

For $5-10 less per night you could stay at the Hacienenda or Mount Vernon (Mount Vermin) that are very close by, but Motel 6 is definately worth it unless you are REALLY broke or counting those pennies.

  • Liked — The price was great and the service was good
  • Disliked — Bad location and no weekly rates

Motel 6 is the motel equivalent of McDonalds. Regardless where you travel, every Motel 6 will have the same, spartan amenities with an acceptable level of cleanliness and comfort. One is almost always the same as the next. Its absolutely perfect if you're a single traveller and all you need is a bed for the night and a hot shower in the morning. I've stayed at nearly two dozen different Motel 6 motels over the last ten years, and this has been my experience (with one exception).

I didn't expect anything different for my night at the Escondido Motel 6. However, I was disappointed enough with my stay to avoid it on future trips to the area.

First, there's no convenient parking. All the parking lots are either on the opposite side of the building, or on the street. Its one large, three story building that resembles a tenement. The one strip of parking stalls on the side of the building were filled, so I had to park a distance away. Unusual for a Motel 6.

The non-smoking room I requested smelled awful. A stale, musty ashtray odor. I figured the shared vents in the building just sucked the smoking room's air throughout.

However, the most unforgiveable problem with this hotel were its clients. There were families allowing their children to run up and down the external walkways. Dubious looking people were "hanging out" on the railings, most of them smoking so heavily that it filled the air everywhere. Just walking to my room was nauseating to breathe that air.

Most well managed places, even "discount" motels like Motel 6, will request that people not do this, or they control their children so as to not disturb the other guests like this. I guess the management of this Motel 6 didn't care. Flophouse mentality.

Then.. all night.. walls of paper allowed just about *every* noise from the rooms surrounding me to amplify. I was stuck on the 2nd floor of the three story building. There were bangings, yelling, screeching children going on at least to 3AM when I mercifully fell asleep. There were constant wafts of cigarette smoking drifting through my ventilation system. Just awful!

Compared to the twenty or so Motel 6s I've previously stayed, this is nearly the worst. My experience would no doubt been just fine had it not been for the noisy guests and managment's lack of controlling it. Even with that, I don't think the building is well suited for a restful sleep because of how its built. There's a "flop house" feeling and look to this place, just missing the laundry lines strung from the railings.

Spend a bit more money and stay elsewhere. There's plenty of decent motels in the area for not too much more money.
