Be prepared for an aesthetic treat! There is a large room of Native American basketry and other ephemera that is unprecedented. The Hover Collection of Karuk basketry was destined for the basement of the Smithsonian until local leadership raised the funds to keep it in Eureka. Always check to see what's going on at the museum because there are days when local basket makers come in to demonstrate, etc. There's a good gift shop here. And lots of other historical exhibits aside from basketry.

Especially local Native American. Had tribal members doing basket weaving and tool making classes! Very fun and informative. Tribal members cooked salmon in front of muesum in traditional manner and methods. Yummy!!!

Great place to stop during walkabout in Eureka old town, especially for the Indian basket display, which gives insight into the indigenous culture. Very good, entrance by donation only.
