Stayed at the Carter House Inn on our way down the coast. Very warm and cozy place to stay. Lots of extra touches to make your stay even more special. Breakfast was included and was very good. No A/C in the room we stayed in but there was a fan that still made it very comfortable. You really need to stay here.

We stayed at the lovely Carter House Inn -for two nights- in room 505. We were warmly greeted by the front desk attendant, who promptly escorted us to our room. I was very pleased that he was able to knowledgeably answer all of my general questions about the hotel's history. A private entry room, 505 had a very clean bathroom, and a spacious walk-in shower fit for two. The room's foyer was complete with very beautiful original art, and a Keurig for a morning cup of coffee. The bedroom was absolutely gorgeous, complete with tasteful antiques and the softest sheets you could ever rest your travel-weary bones on! 505 also has "Front Door" access, which opens up into a beautiful sitting room and a full kitchen. As we were trying to keep food costs down, we really appreciated the refrigerator and microwave!
*Singing more praise... I would also like to tout the hotel's complimentary (hotel guests only) breakfast, completely with fruit, granola, baked yummies (the lemon cake was to die for!) yogurt, coffee, tea, juice, and a chef-prepared hot dish. In the evenings, the hotel offers a complimentary glass of wine to each (legal) hotel guest, as well as tea and cookies, also on the house.
In sum, I would absolutely stay here again, and I would absolutely recommend The Carter House Inns to my family and friends!

Room Tip: *The only negative thing that I could possibly say about 505 is that is is located directly undernea...

We stayed at The Carter House Inns and LOVED it. Their bed sheets were so amazingly soft and the mattress was a dream! We were worried because we sleep on a temperpedic at home but it was such a wonderful nights sleep! Everything was very clean and the staff was very nice too. We missed the wine and cheese snack by the fire but they had hot tea and cookies later in the evening which was wonderful. They are located very close to town; we were able to walk to Lost Coast Brewery from the hotel. The marina was just a ort 5 minute drive away. Everything was perfectly comfortable there. I would stay there again.

We took a two week trip traveling up and down the Northern California coastline and stayed two nights at Hotel Carter and we can not say enough good things about our stay here. Our room may not have had a view but it was spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable with pleasing modern amenities such as outlets built into the desk, a keurig, a modern well appointed bath with an abundance of fluffy soft towels and superbly hot water. We didn't take advantage of their happy hour or hors d'oevers but their evening cookies were amazing and the complimentary breakfast was fabulous. The service from everyone was great. We will definitely stay here the next time we travel this way!

We stayed in Eureka for one night on a drive down the coast. While we weren't able to experience the town of Eureka due to a short stop, we were happy to have a great place to stay on our way down. We stayed in the main building in a "really nice queen" room which was perfect for our one night. Everything was nicely updated and the decor was very charming. We ended up eating at the bar of the restaurant. We intended to get our free glass of wine and then wander downtown but we met Mark, the owner, and had a wonderful time talking with him and were happy we decided to eat there. The food was great!

We had a regular room in the main Carter House building. While the room (Queen bed) and bathroom is perhaps smaller than more modern hotels, it's charm more than made up for this. We also ate in the restaurant 301 which was also very good. I would definitely stay at this hotel again should our travels take us back to Eureka.

Maybe our expectations were too high, but for $200/night, we thought we'd get more than a basic hotel room that was barely acceptable. We found this place to be filled with a pretentious staff--a concierge was even required for ice. Very little was included in the price of the room. Even the nice welcome basket (in the room) came with its own price list. We stayed in the "queen room" on the 1st floor. The carpet was very old, matted and dirty. The fixtures in the bath were old and cheap. For this price point, there were no real conveniences in the room. No a/c, microwave, fridge (for example). I'm assuming this was yet another push toward their attached, overpriced restaurant (that we endured more than one solicitation for). They hung a couple of nice robes in the bathroom, and the towels were nice (again, pretentious). It was a beautiful old building, but our room was way overpriced and under-equipped. We obviously won't be staying here again.

Room Tip: Our room was on the first floor and on the street... very noisy... and it was weather was quite warm...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your response and we are sorry that your stay did not exceed your expectations. However, we have a few questions for you:
• Did you enjoy our complimentary wine hour with hors d’oeuvres?
• Did you participate in happy hour with $2.50 martinis and manhattans?
• Did you enjoy our complimentary cookies and tea?
• Did you enjoy our complimentary two-course breakfast with an individually prepared entrée?
• Did you think our towels were “pretentious” because there were too many or because we had two bath sheets also?
• Service or staff was “pretentious”? We did get ice for you so you didn’t have to. If there is anything a guest needs while staying here, we make sure it gets done for them. All you need to do is ask, so we can do it for you. This is service, and we don’t want our guests to have to do anything.
• Did you notice the items placed in the “honor basket” that include Schramsberg Champagne, Envy Sauvignon Blanc Wine, and a Cutrer Chardonnay as well as biscotti, smoked salmon, etched wine glasses, almonds, mixed nuts, books, overnight kit, and jelly beans? We call this an “honor basket” because the items are placed there for your enjoyment.
Yes, we are in the process of replacing all the carpeting which is included in the major renovation that includes paint, new furniture, new carpet, and a bathroom remodel. While there is new furniture and accessories in your room, there were a few steps left to do including the carpet and bathroom remodel.
All of our guests’ comments are very important to us as they help us to continually improve our guest's experience at Carter House Inns.
Best wishes,
Mark Carter
