“40th Anniversary Wow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2013

Like so many others we can't say enough for this place. We were there for our 40th Wedding Anniversary for 2 nights. The staff, to a person, make our stay one of the best ever. Can't say enough about Embers Restaurant on premises. The wait staff, the food, the ambiance all were perfect for our anniversary dinner. Suggest the Spa Suite if it's a special occasion! Lot's of options at the hotel for activity ~ especially love the outdoor fire pit next to the ice skating rink. Great place for roasting marshmallows - saw lot's of families enjoying this. This was an incredibly romantic stay ~ if it's such an occasion for you arrange for the turn down service. With this room breakfast was complementary. We'd come back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Spa suite with view! Lot's of extra room, jacuzzi tub. Only drawback was very audible sound fr...

Had a very enjoyable time at the Tenaya Lodge over three days. The hotel is decorated for the holidays and puts you in a great mood. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
-Great place for families with lots of restaurant options, heated indoor pool, arcade, ice skating rink.
-Kids are screaming up and down the halls, so don't worry if your kids are loud too.
-Friendly staff that attends to all your needs with a smile.
-4 miles from the entrance of Yosemite NP.

Cons:
-Loud kids screaming up and down the halls.

This is a lovely lodge--it has the huge fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, and views of the forest you would expect to see in the old national park lodges. It is well maintained and our room was very clean and comfortable. We stayed here during the Yosemite closure & the staff were all so helpful with suggestions of things to do in the area.

Spent 2 nights at Tenaya Lodge, the rooms were fairly standard, comfortable and clean etc. The communal areas were really nice though, vaulted ceilings with big log fires is the evening perfect after a day's hiking in the chilly autumn air. The location is what makes it though, just a few mins from the south entrance of the park with a fantastic drive into the valley. Would love to go back in the summer and make use of more of the facility's (bikes, pool etc).

We located Tenaya Lodge through TripAdvisor. The pictures looked inviting. And the lodge meet our expectations. It is really great with very nice rooms, very clean and the staff was super helpful. The Concierge service arranged an all day bus ( executive type ) tour of Yosemite Park with a driver/tour guide named Glen. A box lunch was included in the price; less than $100 pp. and we ate lunch at Glacier Point. Glen was an excellent guide and worked hard to be sure we had an amazing experience. Like us, if you've not been to Yosemite previously a guided tour is money wisely invested.
Back to the lodge. Tenaya Lodge not in Yosemite Park; it is just outside the South Gate and a 45 to 60 minute drive to the valley floor. So consider the daily drive.
We visited in early November. So the outdoor pool was closed as were many of the warm weather activities. The horses were taking a rest from a busy summer.
The lodge has one great Fitness Center associated with their Spa. The Fitness Center is Free to guests along with their lockers, steam room & sauna. Don't pass on the Spa area.
If we were to visit Yosemite again we'd stay at this lodge. The other places we saw driving to Yosemite and on the valley floor looked old and dirty. We're too old to "rough it" any longer.
Now to a minor negative. Once at Tenaya .... you're stuck there; especially at night. As you need to drive 18 miles to the next town for alternative meal selections. When we were staying at Tenaya the meal selection was limited to Jackalope's Bar & Grill (sandwiches & burgers plus a few entre selections) and Sierra Restaurant (moderately up scale dinning). Embers ( up scale dinning ) was not opened or open after 9:00pm ). We ate dinner once at Sierra and didn't return as the quality and selection didn't equal the $100.00 check. Jackalope's, where we ate three dinners, was a better value but still pricey for the limited selection & quality. Breakfast was always eaten at Sierra's and we enjoyed their breakfast buffet; hearty and fresh. The wait staff was consistently friendly & helpful. Jackalope's employs a fellow named Matthew who greeted us with a genuine interest in our day's adventures and suggested hikes & area "things to do" that we would have missed without his guidance. We found the local Lewis Creek Trail with his guidance. This trail offered us a very nice afternoon walk in the woods.
In summary: Great lodge/spa with clean and modern accommodations near Yosemite. However, food is pricey and limited to two late season lodge eateries.

From the moment we walked in the hotel impressed us.....cannot say anything other than great service, rooms, restaurants and right at Yosemite south park entrance. Would definitely return here, had only 2 days here but could have stayed much longer. Beautiful drive in to the next town where there's a really good value local pizzeria which the grocery store is beside so you can take your own picnic to Yosemite much cheaper than eating there!

We booked a cottage for three nights and found it excellent. The queer layout criticised by another reviewer cleverly minimises any noise from the adjacent rooms which are separated by the stairs. We had neighbours at the side and above and were not disturbed by them.It is a good quality hotel and we found the staff helpful and friendly.
The meals in the Sierra restaurant were fine. And the service was good. I would think the summer casual staff had departed because all of our servers knew their job.The breakfast buffet included in the package was excellent with guests taking photographs so impressively was it laid out. I do agree with a previous reviewer that the host system was irritating whilst the restaurant was quiet. I recommend this hotel which is just outside Fish Camp and the gate to Yosemite. Being November traffic into the park was light and everywhere easily accessible. The weather was warm and sunny so we did not bother to buy chains.
