We stayed in two cottage suites for two nights (5 of us) the rooms were a good size with nice balconies & only a 5 minute walk to the main area. They are a little dated, but that didn’t bother us. My biggest bugbear in our room was the shower, it was so low down you couldn’t stand under it! It would have been fine if you are 4.5ft or shorter!
The pool area is a lovely, our children loved that area in the evening after a tiring day in Yosemite!
The organisation in the restaurants needs a lot of work. Our first night I tried to book a table but was told you can’t book but as there were 5 of us we had better get there by 7pm! We didn’t want to eat at 7pm we wanted to book a table for 8.30. By the time we went back at 8pm there was a long wait, we were told we could sit in the buffet restaurant but still order from the main restaurant menu, we chose to do that. It was chaos, we were in that section on our own, one moody waitress walking around ignoring us. I went & spoke to a server who turned out to be one of the managers and he then looked after us well.
The bar outside the restaurant is lovely and a nice place to enjoy a cold drink at the end of the day.
The second night we requested a table a while before we wanted it and took the buzzer remote thing back out to the bar to wait which was much better.

The staff at reception, restaurant booking & the concierge were all great.

Our boys really liked it here - the resort & the pool, and if we were in Yosemite again we would stay here again.

The hotel sits on the edge of Yosemite National Park. They offer a good range of different activities for guests to take part in. Unfortunately, we arrived late and had to leave early so were unable to take part in any.

The restaurant in the hotel serves lovely food and the server we had (Manila, I think) was very helpful.

The room we had was large with chair to sit in and had direct access to the lawn area. The air conditioning unit was rather noisy, the only main downside to our room.

Overall, the staff were very nice and welcoming.

I booked Tenaya Lodge before fully understanding just how far away it is from most Yosemite activities. Tenaya Lodge is very close to the South Gate entrance to Yosemite and Mariposa Grove but it is a very long, twisty, exhausting, challenging drive - upwards of an hour or more - to all of the other Yosemite sites. Your drive from Tenaya Lodge to Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Tioga Road is upwards of an hour to 3 hours depending on traffic. Not a deal breaker, but important to know after long days hiking and exploring the park.

Regarding the hotel itself - like another reviewer noted - this place has the potential to be great, but it isn't. The hotel seemed quite understaffed to me. Long waits for check-in, long waits to be seated in the dining room and then longer waits for food after ordering. Housekeeping services were inconsistent and not thorough. Our room wasn't serviced on our first day. The second day they brought coffee pods, but didn't restock coffee cups. They didn't resupply water glasses - just a whole lot of little things, but indicative of generally sloppy service overall. Pool/hot tub hours were just from 9 AM to 9 PM which didn't seem sufficient if you wanted to use these amenities before/after your day at Yosemite.

The food at the hotel restaurants was also inconsistent. They had some reliably good items (mac & cheese, paninis, burgers) but a few misses too.

And a very important note re: Family Explorer Cabins - we originally booked this, but it is quite separate from the hotel. The cabins have a separate check-in and entrance down the road and the cabins are not close to the pool, the hot tub, the restaurants and all of the hotel amenities. The area where the cabins are located is not scenic and it is very much NOT how it appears on the website.

All that said, the Tenaya Lodge is a good family-friendly destination. It didn't fully meet my expectations and I would not stay there again, given the location/driving issues, but it will be fine for some people.

Note that if you are driving to/from points south - I recommend the Southgate Brewing Company in Oakhurst for a restaurant stop. Very good food and delicious beer.

Room tip: Just note that Explorer Cabins aren't close.

Wonderful facilities located just outside the National Park; no need to stay inside! Stayed in one of the cottages which provided a remote feel but with good access to the pools, restaurants, spa, games room etc. Food okay; on site pizzeria really worth going to. Good eco credentials but curious use of single use cutlery / plates!

We stayed here for three days as part of our honeymoon. We stayed in a cottage suite (an upstairs room) which was great. The room was large and had everything we needed. The room was a little dark but to be honest, that made it quite cozy! Upon arrival, we were greeted with champagne, cheese, crackers and a fruit platter which was a really lovely touch - thank you!

Check in and out was quick and the staff were very helpful. We ate in Jackalopes twice, the pizza restaurant once and had breakfast twice too. Overall, the food was great! The service on the whole in the restaurants was good although it was quite slow at times.

The pool area was a nice touch, however, we didn’t get to enjoy it as there were no beds available unfortunately.

I enjoyed a manicure & pedicure by Shirley in the spa - she did a fantastic job and was so sweet! I went in around 25minutes late to my appt as they were running a little behind - I didn’t mind at all as I was relaxing in a robe in the relaxation area. However, it was a really nice touch as a ‘sorry for making you wait’, I was given a little treat from the spa and also wasn’t charged for my nail repair.

On the Thursday evening, I gave in some laundry to be washed and dried. I was told that it would be sent on the Friday morning & it would be back in the Friday evening - great! However, Friday evening came and I was told that washing doesn’t get done on the weekend so it hadn’t been done. Friday is obviously still a weekday so I’m not entirely sure what happened here - it wasn’t a big issue though. However, once again, the staff at Tenaya were very kind and gifted us with two complimentary breakfast vouchers and two drinks vouchers too for our inconvenience which was very kind of them.

Overall, we recommend this hotel if you’re wanting to visit Yosemite and we would stay again ourselves. We just felt like a few small changes could make a huge difference!
