“Beautiful Accommodations in Northern Israel”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

I stayed at this Kibbutz for 6 weeks in the summer of 2014 as part of an archaeology team excavating the ancient city of Hazor. This is the third kibbutz in northern Israel I have stayed at, and by far the best. It is located near the base of the Golan Heights, a little ways up to give a great view.

It would be an excellent place for tourists to stay for 2 nights while exploring Biblical/historical sites in the north including the ancient cities of Hazor, Megiddo, and Dan, plus the springs at Dan (one of the three water sources of the Jordan river), castle Nimrod, and wineries in the Golan Heights. You do need a rental car or van. It is not close to bus routes.

The large dining room has floor to ceiling windows looking north over the Hula valley towards the mountains bordering Lebanon. It's a beautiful scene to see during every meal - a real highlight in my opinion. The food is very good, with lots of variety. The dining room has free WiFi, but the rooms do not. The rooms are very clean and have air conditioning. The swimming pool is very good. The staff is friendly and service is very good.

We stayed two nights in this kibbutz. The cottage with view over the valley had two TV sets and a whirlpool. This place is very competitive by its breakfast buffet. The location might look somewhat off the road, but its surroundings are beautiful.

Just returned from a 2 night stay in Gonen with my daughter and very much enjoyed it.Friendly welcoming staff - 2 bedroom apartment in the older section which could do with a quick lick of paint but it was well equiped and comfortable. Excellent breakfast in newish dining room. A lovely location for touring Upper Galilee

The Nofei Gonen Holiday Village is located near the Golan Heights and is close to many hiking tours and activities such as kayaking and dune buggy rentals. The village is part of a large kibbutz and is nicely situated for a panoramic view of the area. Rooms are a decent size, have basic accommodations, are clean, and there are a lot of them so if you're staying with a large group, this is a good option. Breakfast is included with the room and it's a full and tasty meal. Service is very friendly and helpful. Prices are a bit high for the accommodations but overall this is a nice place to stay.

This was recommended by my guide and then I read some recent trip advisor reviews about rooms not being clean. We spoke to the Kibbutz and they assured us they were aware of these reviews and that our rooms would be spotless. They were right. If any of you are yoga people, this place reminded me of Kripalu in Lenox Mass. Clean, no frills, nice kind people and really great food. The breakfast that was included is wonderful with fresh breads right out of the oven. Besides the Israeli breakfast of salads, etc there was an omlete one day and pancakes another. Bed was comfy and there is a great swimming pool to take a dip. I was very happy to have stayed here and would recommend it again.

Golan hights was part of my 4 days tour from Jerusalem. Gonen was our last night stay. It was a pleasant surprise accommodation. Manicured grounds, cabin like lodging. Roomy with kitchenette area, sink & fridge. Large whirlpool spa tub, dinning area. Had breakfast & diner there. Walking distant to local market. I would stay here again. Pool was a bonus

The location is fine, everything else is poor.

The lack of service, inedible food, absence of site maintenance, etc. - might all have been bearable if the price had been commensurate. But it wasn't.

Gonen charges as if it were a 3-4 star hotel and in return provides amenities and accommodation more appropriate to a doss-house.

We are Israeli and therefore have some experience of what is available in this lovely part of the world. Will visitors from overseas please look elsewhere to avoid disappointment.
