This was a return visit for my wife and I, accompanied by friends who were first-timers. We ordered a variety of dishes for our mid-afternoon visit, including wild King Salmon, pizza, Maccheroni and White Pork Ragu' -- all superb. If you are anywhere close to Forestville, this is your stop.

Delightful patio seating

Hint -- if you can get the fresh mozzarella, it's a must -- but Franchesco makes it only when a specific curd is available.

Chef Francesco Torre has created a real gem of authentic, delicious Tuscan food, simply prepared and presented in a rustic roadhouse atmosphere. He takes great pride in local sourcing and in preparing all of the ingredients by hand in his wonderfully equipped, compact, fully visible kitchen. The wine list has a wonderful collection specializing in Tuscan wines, with other Italian and a nice variety of local California, particularly Russian River, as well. Francesco welcomes his guests and is extremely friendly and personable, and proud - as he should be - of what he has created. This is not an Italian-American red sauce place, it's the real deal.

We took a local winemaker friend here for his birthday, and though the atmosphere of this restaurant is considered "casual" it's still a very nice place even without stuffy décor. The menu is a mixture of traditional and adventurous new "California local" versions of Tuscan Italian food, and since we were in the mood to celebrate we tried four different appetizers and entrées. Every single dish was prepared with great care, and each was incredibly delicious! (Note to self: remember to go back to sample the house-made mozzarella, of which they'd run out on our visit.) Particularly memorable were the chef's incredibly rich paté, his duck ravioli, superb potato gnocci with a mint pesto, and a lovely pork dish he calls "Tuna of the Chianti." Any and all questions were gladly answered by chef Francesco Torre, who, as it was a slow night, spent some quality time at our table talking about growing up in Italy and learning about food with respect to the dishes we were eating.

Mr Torre personally opened the bottle of expensive local Pinot Noir my friend had brought to celebrate the occasion, sniffed it, made a slightly somber face, then after a dreadful moment or two announced as if he were the wounded messenger coming back from a catastrophic battle: "I believe...it is corked." Our winemaker guest was stunned, but after careful examination of the goods he had to agree with Mr Torre; the two of them discussed the minutiæ of the vintage for almost ten minutes! We were so deflated that the chef went into his wine cellar and produced a comparable bottle of Italian wine which he sold to us for a discounted price, and he didn't even charge us "corkage" for the other bottle. This is not only a brilliant cook, but a nice guy!

The Canetti Roadhouse isn't stuffy-fancy, but it certainly isn't inexpensive either. Still, we stayed there for the entire evening and left only after we felt we couldn't possibly eat another bite. As a special occasion restaurant, I look forward to our next visit.

We happened upon this restaurant by chance while touring Sonoma County. We had just finished a winery visit and we were in search of lunch. We rolled into a small town and found this shining star! It was 3pm and the restaurant had actually just closed for lunch, but the chef and owner (?) himself welcomed us with open arms and invited us to stay for lunch. He actually sat us, cook our meal and served us. We had expert explanations of all the dishes. We were seated outside in back, which has rustic style tables under a trellis of Wisteria and more tables under the trees. The setting was beautiful and I can imagine quit romantic at night. The Chef kindly offered us a salmon amuse bouche appetizer. I'm not a seafood buff, but the rest of my party raved about it. It was like a pate on a crusty bread. Everyone agreed that the "Tuna of the Chianti" was the best dish. This was actually a Tuscan style pork and white beans. Although an appetizer, it was plenty for lunch! Two of us had one of each of the two pizzas on the menu - both very flavorful with a delicious crust. Finally, the homemade pork sandwich - to die for! I strongly recommend a visit to this fine restaurant and I wish to thank the chef for one of the most memorable meals I have ever had!

We had a great meal at Canetti, which is a casual Italian restaurant in Forestville. The food is country Italian, but with a modern twist. All the ingredients are locally sourced and the dishes all were delicious. Francesco is the owner/chef and he gave us a great wine recommendation. He and his staff all are warm and welcoming. In the summer they serve dinner in a back garden, which is charming. Highly recommended.
