“Best ocean views in Ft. Bragg area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Love this park and always send friends, family & folks who stop & ask when I'm walking my dog here for the great views and the wonderful boardwalk trail. So sad that the Haul Road's going away but this will still be my go to beach/park in Ft. Bragg!

“Peaceful camping.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

For my first introduction to camping, this was a great place to choose. The ranger greeted me with a map, explained the process, and made suggestions. I think it was $20 for an RV spot for the night.

Peaceful, quiet, nice camping neighbors...clean bathroom / washroom facilities and a view of the coast.

It was quite cool at night, and no campfires after 8 p.m. Bring an extra blanket.

“Free for day use!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

Now this is the way to run a State Park - *free* for the taxpayers who support it!

First off, when we stopped at the entrance kiosk, both the employees were super friendly and relaxed as they obviously weren't worried about anybody trying to sneak in without paying. The fellow greeted us warmly, handed us a map and waved us on.

This is a delightful park. We headed out to the rocky shoreline on the boardwalk, which was in perfect repair. We enjoyed reading the informational signs, particularly the ones depicting the history of this specific area. So often it seems that State Parks like to hide or ignore history that is "non PC"!

The MacKerricher family owned all the surrounding land for nearly a century. For many years there was a large mill here and you can still see the remnants of the original railway and in later times, the log haul road used to move timber to the mill.

It's a lovely walk out to the headlands, and around the area. The boardwalk seems to go forever. There is a little lake where you can putter around in non-motorized boats. The restrooms are clean.

At the entrance are two whale skeletons. They are mostly real bone, with the exception of some parts that were stolen, and replaced with plaster. It's rather fun to touch the bones as there are no fences keeping you at arm's length. There is also a little gift shop, very low key. I wandered in and petted the two friendly dogs.

All in all, a very enjoyable park. Well done!

“Taking a ''board'' walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

We went just for the adventure. We were told, that we could take a walk,on the ''board walk''..and see seals sunning themselves,on the rocks. So,off we went. There are benches to sit on,along the way.Just to stop, and take in a view of the ocean. There are also wild flowers,as well.As for excitement...there's not a lot of that. This walk really,is just so that you can get out of your room, for awhile...and enjoy the ocean air,and a nice walk.
