We purchased an ocean view room with a king bed. Yes, you could see the ocean and there is a nice little beach, but the hotel is shabby. The moldy smell to the room and the old linens were a real disappointment. The are other places to stay. We were fooled by their website which makes it appear more attractive. Not worth the money.

The Pine Beach Inn may have been a hit 25 years ago, but now it is a run down venue with many problems. The room and outside porch was not clean. Fingerprints all over the sliding door; no way to keep the slider open for ventilation as there was a printed warning "do not leave door open at night or when away; heavy odor in room; bathroom toilet seat loose and chipped; sink drain plugged up and best of all, tons of hair caught in the shower drain. Cost us $109 and a huge disappointment. No WiFi and no cell reception. Stay away from this place!

Room Tip: There are not tips to choose a good room -- stop and go somewhere else.

We arrived late at night. The room and furnishings were old but clean. The next morning we saw the view. We loved the view and stroll to the water. We really like the location and will probably stay again.

Personally, I have a fondness for older properties that have been updated and cared for. Usually, they have good locations, secured when land was cheap and travel was just beginning. Pine Beach has location and a beautiful, sometimes spectacular (depnding on the weather and tides) private beach. It has cable for the kids, refrigerators and mircrowaves but not coffee makers and no counter (in room 108 anyway) to prepare food. It’s clean and well-maintained and it won’t win awards: the phone isn’t connected to the wall! Other guests reported lumpy beds but we had two and one was fine. It does have large grounds a great beach, good diving for abalone and a history going back to the earliest registration card in 1902 plus a picture of the ladies playing tennis on the courts that are still here. Really, this should be a kid’s camp, they wouldn’t see the moss-encrusted lumber or think grudging thoughts about patio doors that don’t close. They’d do what we adults should do on vacation: stop fretting, quiet down, and go play on the beach.

Room Tip: Check your room before accepting it. Quality varies widely.
