“Great for romantic getaway”
Reviewed 3 July 2011

Every view of this hotel has a waterfront view. Although some reviews state the 3rd floor would be the best view, we were on the 1st floor and have a great view. There is a large grassy/dirt lot just below the hotel but it didn't it ruin the view for us - in fact, we saw deer here the night of our stay and again in the morning. We could hear people above us getting settled into their rooms, but never heard talking (unless they were out on the balcony or in front of our room door, which was seldom.) We never heard people talking in their rooms or TVs, etc. One thing we did notice is after we turned off the fireplace, the gas pipes would make a few dull thuds until they settled. We slept with the slider window open to hear the ocean and fog horn. We enjoyed the jacuzzi tub by the window while the sun set., used the comfy robes they provided. The in-room breakfast was nice, you can heat up the croissant and muffin in the microwave. We had a room with a single king bed, the room was very large, lots of room. The bed was comfortable; included down pillows. The vanity is outside the shower area which I prefer. The shower was also spacious; good water pressure. The decor was OK, and like others stated, could use updating but that didn't take away from our stay. Parking is by permit only - one car per room. We had a relaxing stay here and would probably stay again if in the area.

My husband and I stayed at the North Cliff Hotel for our Anniversary this year. We have always loved going to Fort Bragg and have been so happy every since we have discovered this hotel. It has beautiful views and because it is right next to the mouth of the harbor you go to sleep each night listing to the fog horn and waves from the ocean. This is the best hotel in Fort Bragg. The office staff was very nice and helpful, they even recommended the Cliff House Restaurant and made our reservations for us, it was delicious! We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: All floors have the best view, 3rd floor is best!

stayed in a king spa room with fireplace.all rooms come with private balcony overlooking the ocean.the room isn't brand new but was very clean and came with the next morning's breakfast and juice in the fridge.the people at the front desk were very polite and made us feel wanted and gave us plenty of information.the only downside i could see was that there are no elevators and you have to carry your luggage upstains.we had a great stay and got to see a wonderful sunset from our balcony.this hotel has got all the little details down and it shows.

The advertisements and reviews for this hotel are misleading. The room is comfortable but the view and service are not up to the standard as advertised. The view overlooks a muddy embankment. The cliff and ocean are out there but not on the edge of the cliff as it appears. The foghorn is not an issue (low and easily shut out if you close the doors) The jacuzzi is nice but the window is high enough that only one of you will have a view and if you are short you will only see sky.
The breakfast is left in you fridge for the next day. We liked this service. No other services were offered and the hotel staff was new and couldn't answer our basic questions about the area.
This may be the best place to stay in Fort Bragg but if you go up the road a few miles you can stay in beautiful Mendocino.

Room Tip: Definately get a top floor room.

This is not a romantic hotel with a gorgeous view, as it leads customers to believe. Our room needed updating-wallpaper missing in spots, etc. The breakfast was a disappointment-nothing fresh, including the rock hard couple of muffins in the fridge left for us. The view was mostly of a dirt lot-the ocean was not as close as we were led to believe. We felt like we were staying in a Motel 6. For $200 a night, it was not worth it. Go somewhere else!!

I love North Cliff, the rooms are very comfortable. I travel on a weekly basis, and for not being an "Elite Member" the rooms were furnished as if we were, meaning we had a lovely tray of pastries, cheeses, fruit, bottled water, and robes! The staff were very professional, rooms were very, very clean. We had a nice fridge, long countertops in the bathroom, a gas fireplace The bed was very comfortable, the views were amazing!!! The rooms could use a bit of an update with colors and fabric. I'm going back to the area labor day weekend and will be staying 8 days. I can hardly wait....

Finally a jacuzzi for 2 that actually feels like the designer sat in it before installing it! Very comfortable to lie back in and watch the sun set over the harbour. Full marks on that one!

Loved the great shower too. Our only regret was that it was too warm to turn on the fireplace.

The king sized bed was firm but not hard and sleep was easy.

There was a safe, microwave and fridge - makes some in-room catering possible.

We slept with the balcony door open so we could enjoy the moan of the fog horns. We were told that the breaking waves on the rocks actually trigger the sound and that fishermen can tell the condition of the seas by the way the horns sound.

We heard our neighbours a very little bit one night but they went quiet around 11 and that was all the other noise we heard. The hotel was mostly full so it wasn't that there weren't other people around. We simply didn't hear them.

We liked the breakfast and we're not on holidays often or for long so a high fat muffin now and then doesn't worry us. We don't drink juice so that was a non issue.

I agree with other reviewers that some of the furniture is in keen need of renewal. Sitting on the tired old sofa was like doing a deep knee bend. Such a large room should have a table and 2 chairs, particularly the way some people (like us) travel with not one but 2 laptops. Plus if there is an in room breakfast, it's nice not to have to eat it off your lap.

One warning: we tried to Skype a friend and the connection kept dropping out. We definitely noticed the signal was weaker in the middle of the evening when more people were in their rooms. So be prepared to wait.
