This is our first time to the Mendocino area. After searching high-and-low for Mendocino places without the 3-night minimum (over the holiday weekend), we gave up and booked a room at the North Cliff Hotel in Fort Bragg on a whim. We are glad we did.

We had a king jacuzzi room with ocean views. The room was spacious and clean, and I appreciated the robe, the bathroom products, and the free cold water in the fridge. The bed was comfortable and we got excellent sleep. While we worried about route-1 noise when we first saw the hotel, it was actually very quiet in the room. The continental breakfast was not much to write home about, but this is a hotel, not a B&B.

We are glad we stayed here, and would recommend it.

Location wise, his motel style hotel is right by a busy road that goes over a bridge next to it. The rom was large and as we were on the top floor had a vaulted ceiling that gave a great sense of space. Whilst the decor was a little tired, there was plenty of light and a small balcony looking over the river mouth, though the beach below was scruffy.
Breakfast was pre-placed in the fridge, which was a little strange, but had a selection of pastries, tinned and fresh fruit in syrup, two baby bel cheeses and some fruit juice drinks and was edible, if a little bit of an odd combination.
The much written about foghorn was going throughout the night, though there was no fog that I could see, and as there was no aircon, we left the door open. Maybe due to jet lag it didn't disturb us that much, (and with the doors shut you couldn't hear it very much at all).

Stayed here in June 2010. It is just an okay motel. The rooms were clean, but run down. It seems they try to make it nice but they need to revamp the rooms. We were disappointed. The beach off the hotel is not pretty. Do not eat in the restaurant across the bridge. Just as sad as the hotel. However, the fog horn was sort of special.

Stayed here on a weeknight. Got a room with the jacuzzi tub on the first floor. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the otherwise spectacular view can be obscured by overgrown trees, but trees are better than looking directly at another building or a parking lot. The room was very clean, toiletries from bath and body works, big shower, large jacuzzi tub, fireplace worked well as did the iPod dock. The breakfast was good. Sure it's not "fresh from the kitchen" but compare it to the free buffet style things you get from cheaper establishments this was a pleasant meal. You can hear a foghorn in the distance but you'd have to have bionic hearing for it to bother. All in all a nice place to stay when you are in isolated areas along the hwy lined with roach motels.

The room was wonderful except for the tree in the middle of the view, they said they took it down the week after we left. The room was quiet and the hot tub and fireplace were a wonderful addition. The added breakfast in the refrigerator was a weel thought out idea and much appreciated. All in all we will be returning, but this time we will make sure there is not a tree in our view.
