Fort Bragg Travelodge
Ranked #16 of 23 Hotels in Fort Bragg
Reviewed 17 September 2007

Pro's:

- Was one of the only hotels available on short notice on the Labor Day weekend in Fort Bragg
- Comparatively inexpensive (though still not cheep).
- Signs of recent renovations - lots of fresh paint, new furnishings, new carpet and new fridge / microwave inside our room.

Con's:

- Although renovations have begun, it will take a lot of work to make this place feel like less of a dive. The room we had was ok inside (though the bathroom definitely feels dated even with new paint and a nice new shower curtain and curved rod), but the exterior of the place and the lobby need a huge amount of work so that they feel safe, clean and welcoming. The window screens on several rooms were bent as if they had been broken into, the lobby was a total mess and the parking area behind the lobby and attached restaurant were dirty and messy.
- The place just did not have a safe feel - during the afternoon there were people hanging around outside some of the rooms who were drinking and yelling and almost appeared ready to fight. Later at night someone spent some time banging on one of the doors. Perhaps it was just the long weekend crowd though.

Do not be fooled by the AAA rating. This place is awful.
We checked in and it was so bad that we left our room and got another room across the street. We knew we wouldn't get a refund but we didn't care. it was worth spendning another $70 to not have to stay there.

The motel rooms all face a dark parking lot in the back. When we checked in many of the doors to rooms were wide open and none of the beds had been made. This was at 7 pm at night.
There were old microwaves dumped in the parking lot as well.
This seemed like a security issue as anyone could walk in off the street and wander into these unmonitered rooms.

There were a couple of shifty drfiter types wandering around the lot who looked like meth addicts as well as a guy who was wandering through all of the garbage cans. I was worried about our car and was afraid to leave our stuff in the room.

The room was suppossed to be non smoking but it smelled as if they freshly painted over 40 years of heavy smoking. The carpet was curiously wet and it smelled like mold spores were growing.

Do not stay here. It's truly creepy.
Stay instead across the street at the Glass Beach Inn or for that matter any other B&B in town. Fort Bragg has some really dumpy motels so be careful. I am not a B&B person but I think its the best way to go in this town. The Glass Beach Inn hasd a great breakfast and a room with a fireplace for only $3 more than the motel.

I found this place through AAA, and called to make reservations. When I called the gentelman I talked to was very helpful and freindly. (I travel with a family member who is disabled.) This time I also took 2 kids with me, so we needed more beds. The room we were given had 3 rooms, each with a double bed, there was also a couch in the first one that had a hide-away bed. The hotel was under new management and they were doing alot of construction on it, since it is an older motel. They only time we were aware of this from our room was when we left. Glass beach was only 2 blocks away and we were able to walk to it. Denny's restaurant was only 1 block and could be walked to also.I was worried that for the price it would be horrible, but we were not disappointed at all. We enjoy Fort Bragg alot and go every chance we get. When we return this is where we will stay. The staff was great, very nice and willing to help you if you needed anything. I would definitly recommend this one to my friends and already have to a few.
