a fun venture....................this is something that families with younger children would enjoy. The fees are rather high.

“Niles Train”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

This is a fantastic trip back in time from Niles to Sunol through beautiful Niles canyon. The train is decorated in hundreds of lights. They serve cookies and hot cider. All and all a fantastic family outing.

“Fun and Historical...Who knew?”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Niles Canyon Railway has been an important rail system since it's beginning more than 100 years ago. The trains have brought travelers and prospectors, farmers and Merchants along with Goods through the Niles Canyon. That famous scene where the poor Damsel in Distress is tied to the Railroad Tracks happened on this line. Tom Mix and many others once rode this train into Niles Town where they worked in the first Hollywoodland in California. yes, I said "Hollywoodland" because it was the original name for Hollywood until a storm blew the "land" off of the sign on the hills above Hollywood in SoCal. Niles was never named that, however. Ride the train and walk the town of Niles...Enjoy the Esanay theatre in Niles and get the complete history of the early movies where Chaplin and Bowe first waddled and wooed their way into Silent Films...

The train is fun. There are many different types of engines. The steam engine is fun,
I love the train at Christmas time. The trains are all lit up. The canyon is beautiful. The old trains are a treat.

“Wonderful at Christmas Time”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Book a ride on the "Train of Lights" to kick off your Christmas Season. Very festive. But can also be very cold, so dress warmly, and bring a thermos of hot chocolate to drink on the ride. Our three boys used to love this event when they were little. Santa also makes a visit on the train and passes out little candy canes. It's very beautiful.
