This place embodies the history of Alameda County from waaay before California became a state! A gem in the California Mission system.

Rebuilt to the specifications of this 1700's California Mission on the original grounds. A nice visit to the mission church and cemetery along with a view of the small but adequate museum.

Mission San Jose is in Fremont? That's the response I hear most often. It was named in honor of St. Joseph, not the city bearing his name and, yes it is located in Fremont.

It is a calm oasis in a relatively large city. Located on the Eastern edge of Fremont along Mission Blvd it is one of the 'beads' in the California Mission's rosary.

Pros: Was real adobe architecture

Cons: Very little history provided. The buildings are all rebuilt and not original. The bathrooms were awful and the toilets weren't completely functional. Basically something you can walk through very quickly.

This was our last stop on our quest to see all the CA Missions. Admission was inexpensive. We spent about 40 minutes in the museum and gardens and the main chapel. The chapel is well restored, but none of the out buildings currently exist. For a mission, I would say the museum was average. Like most of the CA missions, Mission San Jose is supported by admissions and the Catholic Church. This is not a state park.
